Government and International Relations

Government and International Relations

International relation is the study of the relations between different states with international organizations as well as some subnational entities including interest groups, political parties, and bureaucracies. Being such a wide field, it is related to several other academic disciplines including philosophy, psychology, sociology, law, economics, history, geography, and political science. Research and writing or publications have had a great impact on international relations and the study of government. The field of international relations came into existence as a result of writings that linked different countries and economies comparing their state of affairs.

The study of international relations emerged as a result of different scholars at the onset of the Soviet Union. Journal articles, especially on the history of several countries have shaped the current studies and setting of governments. A surge of writing and research motivated by the notion that inquiry and systemic observation serve human betterment and dispel ignorance (Devetak, George & Percy 2017). The increasing popularization of international relation via research has reinforced the idea that general education should encompass any form of instruction in foreign affairs and that knowledge ought to be progressed in the best interest of the general public control and oversight of military and foreign policy.

The articles picked on international relations enables students and individuals concerned with public affairs to investigate and research the existing relationships between governments and countries. The increasing number of students majoring in international relations can be attributed to various published research showing how important the course and its knowledge is in the outside world. Different educational resources including scholarly articles and journals provide understanding on power, politics, and policies in the contemporary world. Besides, research is acknowledged for exploring forces that shape political and social dynamics in domestic and global levels. It is through writing materials that the major areas covered in government and international relations are exposed. They include globalization, foreign policy, business-government relations political processes as well as institutions.

There are several issues that are related to government and international relations. Globalization being one of them, is the process of integration and interaction among government, companies, and individuals globally. Being a complex phenomenon, globalization, is viewed as a form of capitalist expansion that entails the incorporation of national and local economies into the world and unregulated market economy. Globalization has been an issue among governments and international relations. It is cited as the primary factor affecting how people relate. It has since grown due to communication and transportation technology. With the rising global interactions, emerge better connection among countries and growth in culture, ideas, and trade. The three factors are recognized as the main drivers of government linkages and international relations. The relationship between international relation and globalization is however viewed to be mutual. International relations enhance and shape globalizations. On the other hand, globalization is cited to be among the factors that generate political instability in governments and ruin favorable inter-states relations globally due to terrorism and other ill-events that emerge from free interactions. It is hard to study or discuss about government and international relations without thoughtfully and thoroughly discussing about globalization. The demerits of globalization are what pose a problem to international relations (Jackson, Sørensen & Møller 2019). The increasing globalization is forcing individuals to re-examine the comprehension about the role of states and non-state players including government organizations and multinational corporations in international political economy, human rights and developments that are linked to the challenges faced by different governments. There is also the problem of global ethics that limits international relations. As cultural, economic, and legal norms vary from one nation to the other, several ethical issues rise from them. This becomes a challenge in this topic since a normal practice may be ethical in one nation but unethical in another nation. This not only become a problem to multinational managers, but also to other stakeholders concerned with exploring inter-country relations. For instance, in an international business, the most vital ethical issues entail moral obligation of international corporations, corruption, environmental norms, human rights, and employment practices. The moral obligations set for international governments tend to affect the building of viable links between these nations. If was to investigate globalization as research topic, I would get deep into its effects on relationships between countries in the same region. In the case of global ethics, I would major on the specific ethical problems that limit intergovernmental relations.
