Instructions

-Six full pages minimum. (The essay will be accepted, however, as long as it is on the sixth

page.)-12 point font size, Arial or Times New Roman.

-MLA conventions (e.g. one-inch margins, double-spacing).

-Include a Works Cited page (which, though paginated, will not count towards the minimum

length requirement).

Topics

(1) Choose one political or social issue (but not one you have written for either of the first two

essays) and argue your stance (i.e. favoring it, opposing it, or showing neutrality). Please note

that this is not a “pros-cons” essay, so avoid such an approach. However, you are welcome to

apply any of the following approaches: Aristotelian (or traditional) argument, Toulmin argument,

or Rogerian argument. Also, throughout the essay, show the importance of writing about this.

(2) Take one of the first three essays. Then, go ahead and expand your argument to where it

meets the six-page minimum length requirement. While you may apply a different approach

from what you did in the previous essay (e.g. switch from Aristotlean to Toulmin), be sure not to

change your stance. You may use passages from the previous essay in this one. Throughout the

essay, show the importance of writing about this.

· Regardless of the topic, you are to submit an annotated bibliography prior to submitting this

essay. (See the handouts) On both the annotated bibliography and Essay # 4, you are to include a

minimum of five outside sources. While you are limited to two sources that are exclusively online,

personal interviews, or visual media (e.g.YouTube videos, DVDs), this does not apply towards sources

retrieved through databases.

Due Dates

-Submit annotated bibliography through the link under the Unit 5 Module by 11:59 p.m. on

Monday, April 16.

-Submit Essay Module by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 27.
