CYBER SECURITY-LEAKAGE 1

SECURITY-LEAKAGE 2

Cyber Security- Leakage

Part 1

Since October 21st, 2016, Twitter Inc.’s customer list has dramatically decreased as clients have cited out that Twitter is facing information leakage issues resulting in shaky stock value (Cox, 2010). To improve revenue, Twitter has pointed out that customers should be compliant to safeguard their own electronic devices. According to Twitter Inc.’s, Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets has provided ways of attacking the whole organization through a cyber attack or attacks that conquer an organization so severely that it loses its availability for its purposed clients. This step has resulted to further decrease In twitter customers in recent years as depending on clients to put effort into fixing weaknesses of the site makes its products unsafe and unsolved. Cyber attacks are the reason for Twitter users to logging-off the site.

Cybersecurity issues have left most people jobless while many organizations have also encountered loses and stopped operating due to cyber-attacks. Twitter, on the other hand, is on the verge of losing trust and possible revenue reduction due to its insecurity concerns. Twitter provides an excellent platform for botnets and mobile ransomware to attack mobile devices and cause information leakage to unauthorized individuals. Cybercrime's’ landscape has changed over time with hackers soliciting new and better means of making more money. With such growth in cybercrime, studies demonstrate that software are used for malicious activities. Criminals may use botnets to send spam messages through twitter URLs. Twitter uses ‘TinyURLs’ that most users find difficult to interpret. However, hackers can easily tweak them into malicious links. Interestingly, users are not inoculated against them, as they are to spam emails.

To combat falling revenues and dropping memberships, Twitter should incorporate an internet security suite, improve the management of the social media platform settings to prevent socio-engineering of cybercrimes, and mobilize users to enhance their home networks to curb information leakages.

Part 2

Solution

Twitter users have grown tired of feeling like the problem lies with them and they are losing trust in the company due to information leakage issues, so it is increasingly important to improve user morale to maintain and increase site membership. According to a study in 2018 by Neagu (2018), Twitter should incorporate an internet security suite to reclaim the trust of customers and offer protection through VPN subscription, file encryption, online backup, and extra security tools. A VPN tool enhances security, mainly if the used network is public. The device can help customers to avoid censorship while enhancing surveillance. Tools for file encryption, on the other hand, code the information sent and received by customers on Twitter. By so doing, hackers find it hard to access private information. Twitter must also incorporate online backup tools to ensure that customers securely store their sensitive information online without fear of unauthorized access. Twitter can collaborate with Microsoft or Google to provide customers with extra backup space through Google Drive, Dropbox, or Onedrive at a small fee. Other extra-protection tools such as anti-theft and file shredding tools can be useful in the war against cyber-crimes. Twitter can also provide licensed offline security suites at a small fee to users of iOS and Android. Therefore, Twitter and other internet-oriented firms such as Facebook, Amazon, and Netflix, among others, do not fight against ordinary cybercrimes but rather, intelligent ransomware, phishing attempts, spyware, rootkits, and adware. Such malicious software changes are the face of cyber threats customers encounter, therefore, requiring the intervention of more intelligent counter-software.

Twitter can improve the management of the social media platform’s settings to prevent socio-engineering of cybercrimes. The company offers a few personalized settings, including those that enhance personal account requirements, but can also improve security settings to reduce identity theft. The occurrence of identity theft includes wrongfully obtaining an individual’s personal information through deception or fraud (11 Ways to Help Protect Yourself against Cybercrime, 2019). A fraudster, for instance, may gain access to an unauthorized account for economic gains. Most of the time, account invasion is through tricking the users into providing personal information. Twitter may enhance the security of their customers’ membership by providing more account management features to avoid such instances. Increased account security settings should also project into the VPN (Baldwin, 1997). Improved security information settings give customers the freedom to tweak their information in the accounts. By so doing, clients can protect themselves from cyber-attacks while using private or public networks. Twitter could also educate users to keep sensitive information such as travel plans and individual numbers off their accounts. Twitter should also consider using a VPN while accessing public networks. The less information one share in the public domain, the more secure he or she becomes. For example, by posting the name of one’s parent or pet may be a clue to renowned security questions.

Mobilizing users to improve their home networks to curb information leakages might also reduce cybercrimes. Wi-Fi connections are not as secure as we might think since they are easily accessible. Accessing public Wi-Fi comes with several security concerns, including, the Krack vulnerability associated with the WPA2 (Wireless Protected Access II) affecting mobile devices connected through Wi-Fi. Therefore, Twitter users have to secure their home internet against incidents of cybercrimes. Concerning the number on IoT (Internet of Things) devices that a household owns, ensuring that the network used is secured should be a priority (Cavelty, 2010). The first process in improving home security is changing the Service Set Identifier (SSID). Altering the default name of home Wi-Fi ensures that hackers are unable to identify the router type and exploit the vulnerabilities associated with such a router. Besides, users should not disclose a lot of information regarding the name of the network as that may lead to identity theft activities. The Wi-Fi password should also be unique and strong to ensure that the system is secure. Most of the time, a proper password should have more than 20 characters, including symbols, letters, and numbers. The most crucial aspect, however, is to ensure that the network administrator password is strong enough. The default credentials can be easily broken into by hackers and thus, must be changed.

Associated Risks

Risk 1

Enforcing cybersecurity actions is like examining risks and addressing the uncertainties. As opposed to considering the attaining back of revenue, it’s occasionally best to take into account the losses if you miss safeguarding what requires safeguarding adequately. The setback is that you only actually see it after it occurs, and your organization experiences activities interference, data loss, and compliance conditions violated. There will be significant costs incurred to offer protection through VPN subscription, file encryption, online backup, and extra security tools. These procedures take time to scribe, re-scribe and implement organization-wide activities. In a journal about cybersecurity, the effort to enforce security measures in the organization can be costly; and the organization would know the shots were a success after executing and testing process. If the process were not a success, the management would discuss other measures to reinforce security and more cost incurred (Singer & Friedman, 2013). Anybody in the administration position is aware of the lengthy, apparently continuous process of acquiring and enforcing a new system of protection. Besides that, this makes these ventures unattractive to stakeholders and administrative, and workers will find it tiresome to take part in it too.

Risk 2:

To reinforce cybersecurity, Twitter will have to allow the internet service provider, increased grip on its system, and it may pose some risks and the possible privacy loss. The service provider will have access to all information appertaining to all of all Twitter customers and all its operations, including their financial and employees records. Therefore, organizations may refrain from going through with the cybersecurity enforcements and execution process. A solution to this predicament is the legislation vote in October, stating how much access the network service providers companies have over their client’s data (Cox, 2016).

A possible alternative strategy other than incurring costs and risking the company’s privacy is to encourage Twitter users to safeguard their gadgets. Whereas that is comprehensible, it is aiming at the matter at hand: privacy. Nevertheless, rather than exclusively focusing on these matters, which are the effects of policy goals, executing them will result in long-lasting advantages when under cyber attacks. With a quantitative survey, you consider the issue that requires an answer then; you estimate the effects of not tackling the problem and If the latter outweighs enforcing system security actions then take the chance (Cox,2016)

Part 3

Conclusion

Cyber threats and attacks affect Twitter Inc.’s and its customers as they pose a threat to business and peoples safety. Twitter hacking impacts customers and organizations in a similar way. Therefore government companies and network access providers should get on the same wavelength as technology organizations. The cooperation can only be feasible with great informing among all three bodies so that employees and the entire team can understand the reason for these security measures. Furthermore, Twitter has to meet to state measures by indeed conforming. Beyond any differences that individuals in this organization may have, it is necessary that they all cooperate for a more successful project eventually.

This proposal provides a solution that tackles a general security issue, based on the fact that the mentioned measures proactively, deal with safety weaknesses. Whereas security-minded individuals comprehend that these issues should arise at the start of the process, some people in IT may have a different view, possibly due to lack of similar security experience.
