Drugs have been taking a toll on the country for a long time, both positively and
negative an important role in society. The term drug can be defined as substances that
change the way a body or mind works (Dictionary). Drugs can be bad for health and they
may have many side effects and damage our brain, heart and other important functions of our
body. However, drugs can also be defined as medical treatments; finding cures, prevention
of diseases, and diagnosing diseases all used to otherwise enhance physical or mental
well-being (Merriam Webster).
To begin with, there are three different types of drugs. These are: depressants,
hallucinogens, and stimulants. They affect how you think, feel, and behave. The first one
slows the function of the central nervous system. It affects your concentration and
coordination by slowing the messages to and from your brain, giving less ability to respond
quickly in certain situations.Depressants can cause a person to feel relaxed and less inhibited.
In large amounts they may cause vomiting, unconsciousness, and even in some cases, death.
Some examples depressants are: Alcohol, cannabis, GHB, opiates and heroin.

Second, we have the Hallucinogens. This type of drug distorts your sense of reality.
You may see or hear things that are not really there or see things in a distorted way. Other
effects can include emotional and psychological euphoria panic, paranoia, gastric upset and
nausea. Ketamine, LSD, PCP, special mushrooms and cannabis are examples of
hallucinogens. Last but not least, we have the stimulants. The function of stimulants are to
speed or stimulate the central nervous system. They message to and from the brain, making
you feel more alert and confident. This can cause increased heart rate, blood pressure and
body temperature, reduced appetite, agitation and sleeplessness. In large amounts, stimulants
may cause anxiety, panic, stomach cramps, and paranoia. Some examples of this type are
Caffeine, nicotine and cocaine. These three types of drugs can be consumed in different
ways, by inhaling, taking by mouth, injecting, applying on skin, and smoking.

Different types of drugs affect your body in different ways, this depends on each
person and drug. Each drug has positive and negative aspects on the human body. The
harmful effects of the drugs are legal problems, most of the drugs are illegal in certain places,
so it common for substance abusers to get into trouble with the law. As a consequence they
have to pay high fines, jail sentence and loss of the drivers license. All these consequences
make it very difficult for a person to get a future job. Another big consequence to take into
consideration is health problems.
Drug impacts every part of your body from your head to your toes . Substance abuse
can lead to high heart rates and heart attacks, and injecting drugs can cause veins infections
and infections in your heart (negative consequences of using drugs). In addition to this, drug
can cause financial problems, addiction goes hand in hand with money financial distress, as
many people would waste all their money and resources to obtain the drug. This may lead to
a bankruptcy especially if the addicted individual is financially responsible for other family
members.
On the other hand, drugs have place in our medically advanced society they can often
be the answer for life-threatening conditions including high blood pressure, high cholesterol
or even cancer. They help stimulate people's body, so without a specific drug they could
even die.
An example of a life threatening drug as mentioned before is the Marijuana, this is the name
given to the dried buds and leaves of varieties of the Cannabis plant. Doctors use this plant to
treat different diseases such as Cancer. This plant contains cannabinoids (THC, and CBD)
that help the patient reduce nausea and vomiting caused by the cancer chemotherapy. This
two components of cannabinoids also work as pain relief and as muscle spasms, linked to
cancer.(marijuana medicine)
Taking everything into account the different drugs may affect positively and negatively in
today’s society. They can be bad for our body as they have many side effects, but there are
also lots of positive treatments, that could even save lives. As a society we should be
conscious on how we use the drugs.
