Citation Problems
1. No in-text citations or citing homework rather than the source (e.g. an online article, the
textbook, etc.)
2. In-text citation issues concerning formatting and a lack of consistency
3. Reference page but no in-text citations
4. Not using the Harvard style (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, mix of the above or none)
5. Not enough information in the bibliography
6. Not citing or using sources
Writing and Revising
1. Missing thesis statement
2. Not addressing the questions/prompt entirely or at all
3. Using too many quotations in the paragraphs (quoting every few sentences without
analyzing the information in the quote)
4. Numerous run-on sentences or fragments
5. Poor grammar (such as writing ‘wanna’ ‘kinda’ ‘ya know’ etc.)
6. Disjointed phrases – some are to the point that it’s unclear what they were trying to say
7. Essays not proofread for grammar or clarity of ideas and insufficient editing and/or
proofreading for details (such as misspelling the artist, title, giving the wrong title or not
introducing a work)
