Essay Question:

Define artificial intelligence and discuss it as an umbrella term for other categories. Specifically, define and discuss expert systems and give explicit examples of three expert systems. Lastly, speak to the issue of ethical issues of artificial intelligence and give specific examples.

Keep in mind the following points:

· Develop a multi-paragraph response to the assigned topic that clearly communicates your thesis statement/controlling idea to the audience.

· Organize your essay in a clear and logical manner, including an introduction, body, and conclusion.

· Use transitional strategies to connect your ideas, sentences, and paragraphs.

· Use well-structured sentences and appropriate language for your audience.

· Edit your work to conform to the conventions of standard American English.

Essay Format and Instructions

1. You will type your essay in MS Word.

2. Put you name in a Header at the top right.

3. Put the page numbers in a Footer at the bottom right.

4. Use Double Spacing. (You will have to set this in Word).

5. Use the Word Default Margins.

6. The Word Default Font is Calibri – use this. But change the Font Size to 12 Pts.

7. Press the Tab key to indent for a new paragraph (do NOT press return twice to begin a new paragraph).

8. In general, the essay should be 3-4 pages long, plus a reference page to be complete, can be more, but not less.

9. You must use outside resources (even the textbook and/or PowerPoint slides are considered outside resources), then you must document (cite) them within the body of the essay as an internal citation and in a Reference List on a separate page at the end of the essay. NOTE: Referencing the PowerPoint slides from the textbook gets a little tricky. I would reference it as if referencing the book, then listing slide numbers in parenthesis with the chapter number).

10. Run the essay through the IntelliWriter. The address is https://app.intelliwriter.com. It should show all Yellow or Green checkmarks in the Analysis section before turning it in.
