Context: The two previous essays (essays 3 and 4) which you have written this semester have enabled you to develop substance for the last paper which it is now your task to complete. Your final effort in English 101 will consist of an academic essay that draws on portions of these prior two essays to construct a well-researched, documented, convincing argument for the plan of action or policy that you will now propose.
TASK: write an eight to ten-page paper that identifies a problem, presents a policy or plan of action to solve that problem, and attempts to convince an audience to enact or accept that solution.
The success of your proposal will be determined by its likely effect on the audience to whom it is addressed. For those reasons specifically to find who your readers are so that you can plan each part of your proposal to address directly their assumptions, inclinations, and priorities.
Your final proposal essay will include these elements:
A detailed description of the problem which will include information about its causes and history.
A detailed explanation of the means and steps by which your particular solution can be implemented.
A developed argument that anticipates and directly refutes major doubts (such as counterargument, objections, or criticisms) that your readers are likely to raise concerning your solution.
A presentation of the most significant reasons that your proposal is preferable to alternative solutions.
At least six appropriately documented research sources that support and develop your claims.
A conclusion.
