David Crystal, Alison Wellner, and Joseph Kahn discuss the positive and negative effects of technology on language.

Essay Prompt: Write an essay in which you examine your own behavior when talking on your cell phone or texting. Are you conscious of when and where to use your cell phone? Have your habits changed over the time you have been making calls and texting? Do you talk on the phone in public places such as restaurants, lectures, sporting events, and parties? What distinctions do you and your friends make about the proper etiquette to use in various situations? What determines the principles you abide by and how do you react to those who violate generally acceptable practices?

Essay Requirements

1. Essay must have an introduction with a thesis statement, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

2. An interesting, detailed narrative that makes a mature, insightful point about language.

3. Error-free sentences, including proper sentence structure, proper punctuation, proper mechanics, no misspellings.

4. Essay must use correct MLA guidelines (See example provided in Module 3)

-Double Spaced

-Font: Times New Roman

-Font Size: 12 Point

-Must include a heading, header, and title

5. Be between 2-3 pages (full double spaced pages)

6. May use 1st person.

7. Final essay is worth 100 points
