Effects of Hong Kong Unrest on My life

After about three months, the Hong Kong protests have no sign of getting to an end. The protest started as a small opposition of the extradition bill turned into a considerable protest aimed to fight for political and social freedom. The bill proposed allowing of extradition of the city's citizens to the mainland. The bill would destroy the achievement of the rule of law in Hong Kong and the communist party. This would enable the government to jail the lawyers who are brave to talk about the rights of people. The government has recalled it proposed extradition bill, but this has not mitigated the protest, and it continues. I have seen the protest unfold from the beginning, and the effect of it is dire, and some of its consequences might be unbearable. In this essay, I will give a detailed explanation of how the Hong Kong protests have affected my life, both socially and economically (Chris Patten，1). I will also discuss the short term and long term effects of the protest to my life as well as of the other people in Hong Kong and other places in the world that do business with China.

Another reason behind the protests is that Hong Kong residents are not satisfied with the improvement in living standards, including high housing prices that the government has failed to control (Dennis Halpin，1). Another reason for the protests was the enforcement of law enforcement measures against protesters in Hong Kong. The heavily armed riot police also directly increased their presence in Hong Kong. The demonstrations. The communists and the apostles colluded with the protesters and angered them to participate in the protests. The image of the protests was negative, which indirectly damaged the image of Hong Kong in my heart. Because in my heart, Hong Kong is a peace and freedom city. And in this riot, I re-examined a city I used to like.

On a short term basis, the protest has affected consumer spending negatively since everyone lives for today without knowing what we might wake up to the next day. The non-essential goods are no longer selling as before the protest started. These have both negative and positive effects on the country and the citizens. Reduced sales of non-essential products are hurting the economy in the short term, which will have more negative consequences in the long-term. The summer sales from July to August decreased at a higher rate compared to the same period during other years. The slow-growing economy has many other adverse effects to both the government and the citizens at large, which I will discuss later and how that affects me. Positively, spending on non-essential has reduced saving consumers’ money for feature consumption. This is the most visible effect of the protest on consumer spending.

At some point, the Hong Kong International Airport was shut for two days due to the protest. This had a substantial negative effect on China economy. Thousands of travelers and flights were inconvenienced for the two days the airport was shut. The adverse impact on the economy of China will not only affect me as an individual but the whole population in China and other trading countries. Within two days of the airport's closure, perishable items were destroyed and various goods that needed to be transshipped were placed at the airport. In August of this year, I delivered a document from home, but this international express delivery needs to pass through Hong Kong airport. However, due to the closure of the Hong Kong airport, I did not receive my documents in time, which caused my documents to expire. In addition, Hong Kong suffered more than seventy-five million dollars resulting from flight cancellation, which is a significant effect the national economic growth. This is one of the most harmful effects of the aftermath of this protest.

The protest is keeping tourist out of Hong Kong as no own is willing to visit a city which is full of violence. Small businesses that are supported by tourists have negatively been affected by the protest (Morales and Bernadette, 80). More than 20 countries have advised their citizens to avoid Hong Kong for their safety. Such advisory hurts the economic growth of the country. This year July, I wanted to go to travel to Hong Kong. But because this protest has stopped me. If I want to choose between Hong Kong and the rest of the world, I will choose a place that is more peaceful and has a pleasant tourist environment.

One of the long term effects of the protest will be the negative image of Hong Kong, which keeps away international investors who may wish to do business with the companies in the city (Normile, 65). Global and local companies located in the town are considering relocating their production plants or their headquarters due to the harmful and unnecessary distraction by the protest. The protest has eroded the attractive image of Hong Kong city for international business. International and local business enterprises are no longer attracted to Hong Kong due to the perpetual protest.

The Chinese government's reactions to the protest have been ineffective and have failed to stop the protests in Hong Kong. The government puts the blame on outside forces, which are a pathetic way of reacting to such, which may seem like an insult to the protestors who are fighting for their rights and want the government to control the rising cost of living and in Hong Kong (Normile, 50). This has affected my perception of Hong Kong City as an economic hub to a city full of violence and a high cost of living. More people have also been affected in the same way, and this affects the city negatively.

Democracy is vital in solving problems in any government. Democracy in Hong Kong has not fully matured but is more developed compared to the mainland. The region has some economic and political freedom. Protesters in Hong Kong are also concerned with financial inclusion and fighting for it. This has personally affected my reasoning for the issues of economic and political democracy (Morales and Bernadette, 82). Sometimes for a country to have mature freedom, they must fight for it. The one country with two systems is responsible for the growth of democracy in Hong Kong. This shows that Hong Kong is on the right track on fighting for democracy, and they would achieve it at some point.

These protests have resulted in the closing of small businesses on Hong Kong streets, which is a significant negative effect on economic growth. Jobs and incomes have been lost due to these protests. If the economy of Hong Kong is negatively affected by the protests, all the other people, including me, who have an investment mind, will be forced to change and find a working environment to conduct business with the Chinese government or individual investment (Morales and Bernadette, 72). Violence dramatically affects the image of any country, as the protests have done to the Hong Kong image. The government should ensure that it protects its citizens even if they are against each other. If the government does not find a way to stop these protests, it would be profoundly affected by the loss of funds from the taxes.
