Essay 3 Project: The Final Essay (150 pts./15%)
In 1250-1500 words, you will provide background information about your career choice, explore your relationship with the field, explore the pros and cons of the field, examine a current controversial issue in the field, discuss a current professional’s experiences and opinions of the field, and reflect on your conclusions (follow the order provided).
In-text citations and a Works Cited page are required. Sources (7-10) are necessary to strengthen and support your position. One of these required sources will be an interview (no more than two interviews are allowed) you will conduct with a professional in your field (an assignment sheet for this portion will of the project will be provided). You are also required to present your essay topic and findings during the final week of class.
Keep in mind the following while writing your essay:
· In what areas should you use first person pronouns?
· Stay on topic, and make connections (strong transitions) between paragraphs/ideas.
· Consider order; how should your essay be organized?
· Don’t forget about the UWC!
Purpose of the assignment:
· To practice evaluating arguments and evidence
· To practice establishing credibility
· To practice making connections among topics and sources
· To practice conducting formal research for major projects
I will grade your essays based on the following:
·
· Organization
· Clarity and flow
· Ability to integrate quality sources
· Grammar and punctuation
· Ability to follow assignment guidelines
· Title of essay
· Meeting the length requirement (1250-1500 words)
Helpful Hints:
· Keep your audience in mind. In this instance, your instructor and your peers are your audience.
· Use first person only when necessary, and totally avoid second person pronouns; consider your writing context.
· Assess and evaluate sources carefully; recognize the claims the sources are supporting.
· Use your project overview sheet, proposals, annotated bibliography, and other assignment materials to help you write and organize your essay.
· Cite sources meticulously. Remember, this is a research and documentation course; failure to cite and integrate sources correctly will be detrimental to your project’s success. Luckily, your AB should make certain that most/all of your sources are cited in advance.
