Thesis Statement: Due to the continued violation of the CPM custody stay rule for the undocumented and unaccompanied child immigrants, the American government needs to give an immediate solution to child immigration problems at the border to protect the innocence of the disadvantaged children.

Immigration into the United States of America has been ongoing since the colonial period. The first immigrants moved into the United States in the early 19th century to seek better economic opportunities. Currently, the United States of America is faced with a surge of immigration by people seeking economic, education, better living conditions, and to escape from troubled home countries. As the immigration into the United States continues, the American government is facing a new problem that results from the immigration of unaccompanied and undocumented children. Currently, unaccompanied children who cross the border into the United States of America get held up at the CPB custody before transferring to the Office of Refugee Resettlement. At CPB custody, the young immigrants are supposed to stay there for a maximum of seventy hours. Still, investigations have indicated that the children spend more than seventy hours in legal custody. The conditions at the CPM are not favorable for a long stay of the minors hence putting them at a risk of their rights being violated. Due to the continued violation of the CPM custody stay rule for the undocumented and unaccompanied child immigrants, the American government needs to give an immediate solution to child immigration problems at the border to protect the innocence of the disadvantaged children. It is not illegal for children to seek asylum in the United States of America by crossing the border. The immigration policies of the United States of America recognize the right of individuals to seek asylum as stated in international law. Children are also fleeing from their countries of origin as a result of various uncertainties. The increasing number of unaccompanied and undocumented children's immigration to the United States of America is an issue that can be treated under the international asylum law. The American government should enact policies that guide the management of the children immigrants and outline why the children arrive and cross the border unaccompanied. The children might be seeking asylum; hence need to be taken care of and given a childhood just like other American children. Comment by Author: Where is your evidence from research? It is an inhumane policy to hand the young unaccompanied and undocumented immigrants with the same magnitude as adults. When the adult illegal immigrants cross the United States of America border and are captured by the American authorities, they are put in custody for sentencing and even deportation. Child immigrants are always detained at the CPM before being transferred to the Office of Refugee resettlement. The CPM custody facilities are not favorable for young children, which exposes them to a possible violation of their rights. Despite the fact crossing the border is illegal, the American government should not violate the rights of minors by holding them at the CPM custody past the seventy-two hours mark. Also, the United Nations charter on human rights advocates for each child's protection, future, and safety. It is the role of any government to ensure that the rights to protection, safety, and a bright future for any child are safeguarded. The American government plays its role in guaranteeing the rights of American children. The American government needs to extend the rights to the unaccompanied and undocumented minors who cross the border into the United States of America. The undocumented and unaccompanied minors have created the need for the American government to come up with policies on how they can be handled. The American government needs to come up with policies to align the international rights of a child with the American policies on undocumented and unaccompanied children.
