Character Analysis of Amber

Amber claims that Tom engaged in sexual activity with her against her will, despite the fact that Tom is aware that Amber has feelings for him and that the entirety of their sexual relationship is based on consent and permission from Amber. Amber asserts that Tom engaged in sexual activity with her despite the fact that Tom is aware that Amber has feelings for him. In spite of Tom's firm belief that Amber had affections for him, the facts of the scenario demonstrate that this is not the case. In addition to this, he is certain that the sexual connection that they have is purely based on the parameters that they set for themselves. Amber's claim that she never gave Tom her full consent to have sexual activity with her is supported by a number of relevant circumstances, which shows that Amber's claim was right. Amber insists that she never gave Tom permission to have any form of sexual contact with her and that she never consented to any of it. Amber's claim is thought to be drawing attention to Tom's allegations of sexual assault in this manner because she claims that she never gave Tom her consent to have sexual contact with her, and she maintains that Tom never asked for it. The term "sexual assault" refers to any unwanted sexual contact or behaviour that takes place without the permission of the victim and without the victim's comprehension of what is taking place. There are many different manifestations of sexual assault. This category of additional criminal offences encompasses the offence known as attempted rape, which may be seen as a subtype of sexual assault. It is probable that it is inappropriate to caress or sexually contact another person in any other way before first getting their consent. The controversy of who exactly is to blame for any and all incidents of this sexual assault is discussed in this essay. The objective of this study is to conduct an investigation of Amber's personality in order to establish whether or not she is to fault for these problems and whether or not Tom has harmed her in any way. Because she is not frightened of anything, Amber's perspective on the world is considerably different from that of most other people. Tom has a reputation for being flirty, rude, and self-absorbed, despite the fact that he is dissatisfied with who he is as a person. This is due to the fact that Tom has a history of engaging in inappropriate sexual behaviour. This essay also provides a summary of the most significant event that takes place in Actually, which is a sexual assault, as well as Amber and Tom's reactions to the attack and the aftermath of the event (Ziegler). Amber's principal motivation for protecting such intense hostility toward Tom is because she is under the impression that he forced her to participate in sexual activity against her will. “This moment when all of a sudden, he was inside me, and it’s not like I expected him to ask my permission but I didn’t expect him not to either. And it hurt and it kept hurting and eventually I just jumped out of bed” (Ziegler, 41).

Tom is positive that Amber loves him, and he and Amber both desire to have sexual contact with one another. “I’ve never any clue what to do with someone who’s trying to hide how they feel … probably because I am always trying to hide how I feel” (Ziegler, 14). Both Amber and Tom are interested in having sexual contact. He is positive that Amber has romantic feelings for him, and everything that the two of them do sexually is done with the consent of both individuals involved. In addition to this, he is certain that the sexual connection that they have is purely based on the parameters that they set for themselves. “And then Tom makes his statement. He’s like a.) we were drunk and b.) I would never rape someone” (Ziegler, 20).

Amber is a courageous person who spoke for herself and explained how Tom started a sexual activity without her consent.

Amber is a courageous young girl who stood up for herself when Tom sexually molested her without her will. Tom is no longer allowed to have any contact with Amber. She accomplished this by pointing out the inappropriate behaviour he was engaging in. “So when they ask: ‘did this boy do this to you without your consent?’ even though I might not have chosen that exact phrasing it seemed like the honest answer was yes, especially because I was probably too drunk to give any meaningful consent anyway” (Ziegler, 40).

Amber is a young woman who is brave and independent. She did not have any problems sticking up for herself when she needed to. When she was in the presence of the person who had sexually assaulted her, she did not give any sign that she was terrified of that person. Amber's claim that she never gave Tom her consent to have sexual intercourse with her is supported by relevant circumstances. Leslie helped Amber to think about the situation and remember if she gave her consent or not. “And then Leslie is like ‘but are you sure you clearly expressed your ‘lack of affirmative consent’? [...] for the first time I flash back to the night in question and to the way I felt the next morning, how I wanted to get out of Tom’s room as quickly as humanly possible, and dig a hole and just live there forever, and I’m like ‘I’m sure, Leslie, but thank you for reiterating the gravity of my actions” (Ziegler, 17).

Throughout her life, Amber suffered no harm of any kind. Amber did not want to play the game of blaming the victim since she was certain that if she had not been the victim, she would have delighted in the sexual activity to a great extent. Therefore, she did not want to play the game. As soon as she was able to, Amber ran away from the situation that may have turned out to be dangerous. She hurriedly departed the possibly dangerous scenario since it made her feel uneasy. The situation may have ended badly for her. Amber also confessed her statement in front of Tom by saying that, “You obviously don’t because it happened. I jumped out of bed and you grabbed me, hard, and I was like ‘actually, um’ but you pulled me back into bed and you just…” (Ziegler, 41). “[....] I had this strong physical impulse to get away from you, I did -” (Ziegler, 41).

Amber is a girl with a lot of courage who is able to stand up for herself, fight for her rights, and run away from difficult circumstances. She is able to do all of these things successfully. Amber stands out as the more courageous of the two since she made the decision to flee in order to rescue herself throughout the narrative. There are several allusions to both of these persons throughout the story, but Amber is the one who sticks out the most. Tom sexually assaulted Amber by engaging in sexual behaviour with her without first gaining her agreement. Amber was the victim of Tom's sexual assault since she was the recipient of Tom's sexual advances.
