For this essay, you are going to examine the characterizations and portrayals of the living dead in television and/or film.

Specifically, you are going to examine what social and/or political overtones are evident in these particular movies or shows.
Some key sources of information you might want to focus on include:

*If you have a weak stomach, don't watch the full films; just research them thoroughly.
You are welcome to examine any other film featuring zombies (pending my approval).
Prompt 1:
· BRIEFLY describe the general plot.
· How are the zombies classified by the still-living? Are they regarded as a nuisance, a plague, divine retribution, or something else? What effects do the zombie outbreak have on the survivors?
· Are the zombies an allusion to another specific co-culture?
· Is there a particular line, dialogue exchange or scene that stands out in your mind? If so, what does it mean in the context of the time period this film was created?
Prompt 2:
· What social/political/economic factors were occurring at the time these cultural artifacts were created? Could this have made an impact on how the zombies were represented?
· Do these films or TV shows have more of a social, political or religious overtone? How does this affect the portrayals of the living dead?
