Spanish 210 Essay #1 prompt

1- Rough-Draft You must submit a copy of your rough draft to the assignment folder on the due date. Before your Friday discussion class. Minimum of 3 full pages.

2- Your final draft must have four (4) full pages plus a bibliography with a minimum of three sources.

Essay Prompt #1

1- For Essay #1 you are to choose two movies from the following list: Apocalypto, La Poeta del Ring and/or Frida.

2- Compare and contrast, the two films you chose, using the theories of Tzvetan Todorv (Ethics to History), Adrian Reich/Virginia Wolf (Politics of Location) and/ or Laura Mulvey (The Male Gaze).

3- How do these 3 films tell you their story and how do they show you the female charecters.

4- How does a female director tell a story? 5- How does a male director tell a story? 6- How are the female roles represented in the films? Heros? Submitted? Etc… 7- Keep in mind that Apocalypto was directed by a M. Gibson; and La Poeta del Ring was

directed/written and performed by Carmen Coronado. 8- You should also keep in mind that Frida was directed by Julie Taymer; nevertheless, she

was under the supervision of Harvey Weinstein.

You should follow the following essay format.

Paragraph #1: Introduction

Thesis brief, clear and to the point. Your thesis should be at the end of your 1st paragraph.

Paragraph #2: Definitions

1. Here you must define the theory you are using in your analysis. For example, if you are writing about History (Todorv), you must use information learned in class to define it.

2. If you are using violence The Politics of Location or The Male Gaze, you must define it as explained in class.

3. You are not allowed to use the dictionary, the encyclopedia or any other internet site that has a dot com extension.

Paragraph #3 and #4: Should be the analysis of your examples.

Paragraph #5: Conclusion

Note:

1. Make sure you the follow MLA in writing your name, your professor’s name, class and date.

2. Last name and page number as per MLA (top right-hand corner) 3. Your title should be a long tile, not a one, two, three or a four-word title. 4. You should have an introduction to your chosen subject as your first paragraph. 5. Your thesis should be underlined and at the end of the first paragraph. 6. Your second paragraph should be a paragraph where you define the theory you are

using. 7. The rest of your body paragraphs should be about finding examples and analyzing

them. 8. Your last paragraph should be your conclusion. 9. You must have 4 full pages in your essay, a fifth page with your bibliography. 10. Your essay must have at least 3 citations/quotes from the articles read in class.
