· "Reading to Write" by Stephen King (50 Essays)
Introduction: Introduce the essay by its full title and the author’s full name. Be sure to explain any relevant context in this paragraph.
· Thesis: Your thesis statement should clearly identify the rhetorical strategies this author uses. For example: In the article X, author Y creates an argument mainly dependent on emotional appeals, which he/she creates through detailed descriptions, individual stories, and deliberate, emotional word choice.
Body: In the body of this essay, you should organize paragraphs efficiently, making clear connections between relevant topics. Spend time:
1. Summarizing the text
· Explain the main claims that the author makes in this text. Additionally, you should explain what the purpose of the text is and why you think this.
2. Explain what strategies the author uses to make their argument. In other words, how is the text put together?
· Focus on how the author builds logos/pathos/ethos within their writing
· Look at the pieces of evidence they use. What do they use as support for their claims, and why?
· Use direct quotes from the text as evidence for your analysis
Conclusion: For your conclusion, explain to me if, ultimately, you think this piece of writing was effective in getting its message across to its audience. You should draw on the work you have done analyzing strategies and claims within the text to support your overall evaluation of the text.
