Essay writing tips

Think about the feedback you received in your modules from last semester. Avoid making the some mistakes and repeat what you did well.

Choose a concept that most interests you. Feel free to choose one that is still coming up.

Please use the online reading list and the bibliography from these works to find new material to read for your essay. Take advantage of the entire reading list.

Read. If you enjoy an author spend some more time with their work. Take notes and include page numbers of quotes or passages you think are important.

Chose a module structure (previous slide) and create an outline before you start writing. Identify which authors and key quotes you are going to use in each section.

Write. It should feel like filling in the blanks of your essay outline or pulling the various parts together. Re-write your introduction when you are finished. Double check your bibliography.

Proofread. You should read your entire essay at least twice once it is completely written, including once out loud to yourself or to a friend. You will be amazed how this helps!
