“INSTEAD OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES, THIS YEAR I AM SHOOPING FOR BULLET BROOF BACK PACKS”
Ironically, School supplies belong to educational accessories of studies which they use while staying in school. As far as this article is concerned, the author shares her emotions regarding her children and the on-going situation of U.S. school shootings. She says I am buying bulletproof backpack this year instead of having school supplies for children because the life of children is at stake according to the increased school shooting in U.S. She described her own schooling era in which she says that I was a chubby girl and the only fear I had that people will laugh at me by calling me chubby, fat girl but there was no fear of extremism and school shootings, killing of innocent children. Nowadays, students carry guns for their protection which is an unfair practice in order to get themselves safe from the criminal activities going on at U.S. schools. But the author explained that it is not a freedom that students are carrying guns for their safety, it ultimately gives them urge to shoot anyone else if they tease them or having dispute. This is basically an alarming situation of all U.S. School, they must implement effective and efficient school laws in order to get students safe and make this a real educational institute rather than it portrays scary scene.
Over 100,000 people become injured in result of school shooting including students, teachers and other staff members, likewise, more than 36,000 people die every year due to these school shootings. This is a critical situation for the government of U.S. in order to make effective policies regarding schools, colleges and universities that students are not allowed to carry guns in their bags also check other unknown persons that they would not be able to enter the school without having a proper identity. When school authorities are not very much strong enough to stop these criminal activities and put student’s life at stake then shooters get sufficient chances to make their activities successful. For this purpose, they must check school bags, identity of the students whether they are from school or outsiders because there were 93% shooting cases done successfully because out of 93% of shootings, 81% were known that they are going to happen and no one complains about the suspect because of poor security measures. 81% are successful because people involved in the institution itself based on receiving bribe from the terrorists. Due to which author sees that her children are not safe that’s why she has strong focus to provide them bulletproof backpack instead of having school supplies. Here, author encourages those parents who put their students at stake because education is mandatory for them although they know that shooting is going high day by day.
Providing guns to students is a crime and not making effective school security policies is the biggest crime because these children are future of the country. It the responsibility of the government to get security measures tight at all schools and educational institutes of U.S. so that the crime rate would be reduced effectively and efficiently. Gun protection legislation is taking a wrong way because people think that it is sense of freedom because nowadays freedom is defined on the basis of possessing a gun for protection. This legislation must be changed in any way because it would create mental health issues to children who do not think but act as their elders do. In search of that, student must be educated towards the positivity of life and their protection is mandatory by having security measures like bulletproof backpacks, etc. Obviously, this is not called a school where students are wearing bulletproof backpacks, it seems like they are going for a war. This extremist culture should be eradicated from all educational institutes, government should take action make these schools is safe and sound place for children to study where they learn life lessons but not scared of being killed from anyone’s gun. This fear must have vanished from everyone heart then public health issues, student mental issues would be cured effectively and efficiently. The author has beautifully described the current school shooting situation and provide a positive solution to tackle it and remove it productively. Most importantly, it can be done at personal level as well.
