The difference between Saudi Arabia - Jeddah City and New York City is a major

difference. because the amount of people that are living in New York City is

tremendous. In jeddah city the people are countable and noticeable everywhere. That

drags us to how people are culturally nice to each other because there aren’t many

things to do there like here at the big apple. There are less jobs, less activities to do in

Jeddah which is the opposite of New York. However, the size of jeddah city is triple

times bigger than New York city but the people that are living in here are more than

Jeddah city. What Ive recognized in the past few years in here is that families aren’t

close to each other very well. For instance, if a boy or a girl turned eighteen years old

they have the right to move out of there parents house. This is something weird in the

Arabian culture or specifically in jeddah city that a member will move out from his or

her families house. In jeddah girls or boys stays in there parents house until they get

married or find a job and even then sometimes the families offer there kids to stay more

for a few years sometimes. And they build for there kids there own houses to live in

and it can be closer. It really shocked me how families here don’t visit each other a lot

or don’t communicate that much. In jeddah we must meet up at least once a week or

every two to three days with each other. For example, once my grandmother came to

NY and she was sick. Me and my sister who have been studying in here in New York

for three years took her to the hospital. On our way out after we finished people were

looking at us because most of them didn’t have there kids or family members with

them. I was really shocked by the amount of old people were there without anyone

helping them. That made me think of how culturally jeddah and NY are different than

each other. It is a shame thing to do in jeddah if you do not communicate with your

family every two to three days or even every day. Communication is necessary thing to

be aware of in Saudi Arabia . Not even the family members but also the relatives from

the both sides of parents. We have weekly gatherings between the relatives on every

weekends. We meet each other and eat dinner or lunch. That is how people in Jeddah

City are super close to each other or in the Arabian culture. I’m really surprised about

how sometimes parents don’t reach out or know about their own kids after they move

out at the age of eighteen. In the Arabian culture specifically in Jeddah city parents are

more responsible for their children’s education, health care, marriage. Also, finding a

wife or a husband. It may sound wired but the mother in the Arabian world is the

searcher. She can find the wife of her son and if he agrees they get marred. Even the

daughter the mother is responsible to search or find the best man for her. Nut it all

narrow down if the son or daughter agrees. It is not important for the mother to search

for her kids. However, it’s something commonly people do in jeddah or in the Arabian

culture .

There are major difference between the two cultures in terms of people. Or how

people were raised. In New York city culture, what I’ve realized is that people don’t

judge you real quick by how you look. However in jeddah city people kind of look at

you from the way you dress and judge you. If you don’t look good they might see you

in a different way or treat you in a certain way. That is unfortunate because this is your

freedom of choice and this is what I really love about New York city. You can be who

you are really. In Jeddah city you cant fully do what you want you have certain lines you

cannot cross otherwise people will think you are crazy or wired. Also, what I love about

New York City is you have the freedom of speech and freedom to comment on who

ever you want. That is not possible to do in Jeddah. Saudi Arabia is a beautiful country

and it has many different culturally places to visit but you really need to know the roles

before you entire it. Its like any other countries you have to have a little bite of

background about it before you travel to it or think yo travel to.
