WRIT 1122 - The Rhetoric of Remix

I Won't Hold Your Hand Comment by 作者: Ha. Nice play on words. Comment by 作者: Comment by 作者: Comment by 作者:
Mixing is the most essential thing in the world. Whenever and wherever we see, hear, smell and taste, we can surely trace back to its origin. Everything in the world cannot be 100% original. Of all these things, music is a good representative. In 1963, the Beatles'song "I want to hold your hand" received considerable praise, followed by countless imitations, dubbing, and adaptation. Among them, the most characteristic is Ai Green's Blues version. It can be said that the Beatles'song sings the voice of young people, while Ai Green makes the older generation who like blues songs fall in love with it. Comment by 作者: The paper starts here, Comment by 作者: Al, not Ai. Comment by 作者: This is a good start to a claim that will carry through the rest of the paper. There are ways to complicate this. If you want to learn more, let’s talk.
The Beatles, a British rock band, formed in Liverpool, England in 1960. The group is very good at exploring and experimenting with all kinds of music, from noise Jazz at the beginning, rock in the 1950s to pop rock and psychedelic music later. Since 1960, the Beatles have been releasing a variety of singles, which has been recognized by people. When they entered the American music market in 1963, they opened up their new music world. At first, they did not develop as smoothly as they did in Britain. Capitol, a subsidiary of EMI in the United States, initially refused to release Beatles music, including the first three singles, so their release in the United States was delayed for more than a year. Comment by 作者: This paragraph provides many details about the rhetoric of The Beatles. But that’s not enough here. You also need to work to make these details feel more connected to the argument you are making. In this case, try to explain how these detail connect to what you have said about The Beatles earlier (that their sound is for “the young people”). Without that connection, readers will not understand why you are including these things. This statement holds true for the paragraph below, too.
Meanwhile, they released songs in 1963 through independent U.S. labels Vee-Jay and Swan, but legal issues of royalty and copyright hindered the band's sales. At that time, the Beatles broke arranged a massive marketing campaign, supported by DJ (Carrol James), who first broadcast the Beatles' records in mid-December 1963. Only then did the band begin to succeed in the US charts. After that, a series of propaganda activities went smoothly. That's when the Beatles released "I Want Houd Your Hand" on December 26, the same year.
The single sold a million copies instantly and topped the U.S. list in mid-January. The song became the Beatles'status in the United States after it was released. So 1963 was an extraordinary year for world music. This year, a world-class music group, the Beatles, officially appeared internationally. The Beatles caused a wave of world music and a musical storm in the United States. After the Beatles entered the United States with their different musical styles and unique music works, they received strong support from the American people. When people first heard "I Want to Hold Your Hand," they were very excited. Beatles fans can be said to be music fanatics. At the same time, one million sales have created a sales miracle in American music. According to the Records Industry Association of America, the Beatles are the highest-selling band in American history, selling 177 million records. They are the top-selling band in the UK charts with the most significant number of albums and the largest sales of singles in the UK. Comment by 作者: Maybe if you were to describe how many young people bought the record, then you would be providing a kind of rhetorical information that was connected to your earlier claim about their appeal with youth. This is an example of the kind of thing I am asking for in the above comment. You will need to do that sort of thing consistently in revising these first couple of pages in order to make these body paragraphs function more convincingly as evidence of your earlier claim. Comment by 作者: Provide evidence of this. Are you mostly focusing on American reaction to The Beatles here? You can certainly do that, but you do not have to. Comment by 作者: Again—I do not yet see how this information helps me to understand more clearly how and why The Beatles were popular with youth. We are also about halfway through the paper, and there has not been much discussion of what the song sounds like, or why it sounds that way. These elements are crucial to the success of the paper.
For Beatles fans and listeners to this song. Bob Dylan should be the most famous. He was also a fan of the Beatles, especially the song. When he began to listen, he misunderstood the lyrics. He misinterpreted the meaning of the words as the Beatles ‘experience after smoking marijuana. When he saw the Beatles and gave them marijuana, the Beatles said they had never smoked marijuana before, which was a misunderstanding. Whether he misunderstood the lyrics or not, he admired the band very much. He said their chords were perfect and well-coordinated. No one has ever made the music they make. The Beatles succeeded in the United States because their music was not only loved by the audience, but also by young people such as teenagers. They are more popular with most native American singers and listeners of all ages. Ai Green is a native American singer who likes them. Ai Green is an American soul singer in the 1970s. He used his blues style to create many wonderful soul musics and praise love. Ai Green released his album Green Was Blues in 1969. This album includes an adaptation of the Beatles' Want Houd Your Hand. He added more blues to the song's original rock rhythm. Comment by 作者: What does this story have to do with why the song sounds like it does? Comment by 作者: Yes—okay. Now, explain why this was true. To do that, rely on rhetorical information that helps support this claim. For more on what that kind of information might be, maybe we can talk in conference. Comment by 作者: Tell me more about this blues style. What are elements of it? What about Al Green’s background helps explain why he became a singer known for this sound? Why do you think he chose to cover “I Want to Hold Your Hand”? These are crucial questions to try to answer in this paper.
By comparing the lives of the two singers, I found some details explaining why the Beatles and Al Green had different meanings in the song "I want to catch your hand". Lennon and McCartney borrowed the song from Jane Ash when they wrote it. It was at this time that McCartney became Jane Ash's boyfriend, so the song was created not only for the love of music but also for love." When I touch you, "Happiness in the lyrics is like my love" clearly describing the author's feelings. Even the name of this song is that I want to hold your hand, which proves his love for this girl and their passion when they love each other. However, after Al Green changed, the meaning of the song changed. Al Green adapted the song into blues, which proves that he knows more about it. Algreen's love and marital life have always been a big problem, so in this song, it is more eager to love, have their good love. That's why two singers have different meanings for a song. In Beatles music, there are more modern, novel rhythms and the new understanding of the world, so the concepts embodied in the songs have become very young. It is said that no one has ever tried Beatles music. This is a bold new idea. Innovation is indispensable to success. Although Algreen's adaptation has a more traditional American style, the song is even more esoteric when sung in a blues melody. However, that's different from the Beatles'original intention. So the Beatles version is more popular because they break the rules and explore new things. At that time, it also gave audiences different auditory experience, which was already the feeling of soul. Comment by 作者: What do you mean by “borrowed” it? I think her name was Jane Asher, not Jane Ash. Comment by 作者: I do not understand the logic of this sentence. To really make a case for how the song means something different when sung by Al Green, you will need to make more specific connections between his life and certain lines in the song that you think have connections to those events in his life. Also, you will probably want to write more about the sound of his version, which is very different from the original. Why do you think he made his version sound that way? Who do you think listened to it, and why? These are among the questions you should try to answer in revising this paper. Comment by 作者: Can you further explain what you mean by this? Comment by 作者: What? What does this mean? Comment by 作者: How so? Can you explain this? Comment by 作者: Esoteric? I am not sure I understand. As you can see, it feels to me that you have begun to give claims about both versions of the song here that require further explanation and illustration to become clear and convincing. For more on how you might accomplish this, meet with me, and I will give you some ideas.
Someone will wonder why the original song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and the adaptation of AI Green are favorite because people have always accepted mixing. In that era, a song of praise for love, yearning for love music will undoubtedly make people feel, have resonance. At the same time, like today's theme, mixing. This means that what people want is not originality but excellence. No matter what the cause of a thing is, as long as its process is a personal effort, a person's experience of a happy person will be accepted by people, of course, plagiarism is rejected.

(Grade = C) Victor – Thank you very much for this effort! I appreciate that you have chosen a song where the two versions sound so very different, and I appreciate that you make a clear argument about the difference between the songs. This gives you many possibilities for what you might write about to explain those differences. In revision, I hope that you will work to make more explicit connections between rhetorical information pertaining to Green/The Beatles and the claims you make about why the songs are different. To be more compelling, I hope that you will consider additional factors not yet discussed—for example, the sound of each sound (i.e., the elements of music in each version and why they exist in each version). For more on what this work might look like, I hope that you will talk to me.
