WRITE: Documented Argument Essay, Draft 1, on the topic of "Should public college be free?" Last week, you created an essay plan and wrote your introduction paragraph; this week, you will write your body paragraphs and conclusion. You will submit your complete 5 paragraph essay with an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. (NOTE: if you chose to do a 2- paragraph introduction, your essay will have a total of 6 paragraphs). Like our last Argument essay, you will begin BP 3 with a "naysayer" that you respond to.
Important:
Do not use personal examples as support in this essay. Instead, use supporting information you found in your sources. This is called "documented evidence" because you are documenting (citing) a source. This evidence includes things like an expert opinion, statistics, or an example taken from your reading.
Every body paragraph must include evidence like this. Remember the "sandwich" technique where you introduce the source with a clear signal phrase, give the supporting evidence, and then explain ("this means") and conclude.
Overall, you should use 2-3 different sources in your essay.
At the end of your essay, use a page break, and then start your Works Cited list on a new page. Your Works Cited formatting doesn't have to be perfect in Draft 1, but you should make sure you have all of the necessary information.
