Go to YouTube or other websites of your choice. Select any three types of nonverbal communication environmental objects (this can be buildings, landscapes office set-up, cars, etc.), (discussed in Chapters four and five) that effectively encourage or discourage human interaction. Now indicate all the changes you would make, so that this environment would have the exact opposite effect. Be sure to integrate your response with information from the course book; five other sources from any Communication journals or books; and your own personal, workplace or faith experience.

Your paper should be 7 pages long, double spaced, proof-read, with correct APA (7th edition) references, and a minimum of five sources required.

Paper: A step-by-step guideline

Step 1

Select any three websites or YouTube videos of your choice. The websites or videos should contain some nonverbal communication proxemics or environment items. These items can be a building, people seated in an office, people walking in the parking area, the parking area itself, people eating a meal for example in the company’s breakroom etc. Here you can use the textbook to see more examples of environment nonverbal communication.

Step 2

Explain what the video or website is about, then describe the nonverbal items that you have found on that website or YouTube. Also use the textbook and the lecture to help you to explain the environment/proxemics nonverbal cues that you have found in each website or YouTube video.

Step 3

Explain how the nonverbal times that you have found are communicating, and what they are communicating about the organization. Here is an example: If one of the websites that you had selected was the University website, you could talk about the pictures of students sitting together in close proximity. The nonverbal communication image here could be that this is a university where students work together, lean on each other and are able to support each other through their courses. Here I just focused on space as the nonverbal communication cue. I could have selected buildings on the website and explained how the buildings were communicating nonverbally about the university. Here you need to use material from the lecture and the textbook.

Another example could be from the Dallas Baptist University website (please know that you are not restricted to universities here, I just happen to love universities!). Using this example I could talk about the nonverbal communication messages which are conveyed by its proxemics. For example, I could talk about the church building being the main building seen on the website, and how this is an intentional nonverbal cue, to communicate the central role of Christ in the objectives of the Dallas Baptist University.

Step 4 Explain how these nonverbal communication cues that you have described, encourage of discourage interaction.

Step 5; Describe how you would make changes to either improve human interaction, or decree it.
