Briefly describe the selected environmental health theme.

To better environmental health throughout the world, Healthy People 2020 has identified six key areas. To no one's surprise, the first item on the priority list is to improve the quality of the air we breathe outside. This dangerous presence is often overlooked because we can't always perceive its devastating consequences. Premature mortality, cancer, and long-term respiratory and cardiovascular system damage are connected to poor air quality (Healthy People 2020, n.d.). Human existence is dependent on reducing air pollution for these and other reasons. In order to establish a healthy global environment, this is a crucial step to take.

Discuss how the community is affected/impacted by this environmental health theme.

Again, the air we breathe in Little Village has been rated as hazardous to our health (Rivera, 2020). The air quality has not improved since last year, according to new data. Polluted air may cause a variety of health issues. It's not only turtles and whales at risk from plastic waste. In addition, it's a significant issue of environmental justice. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable. Asthma and other respiratory disorders, such as covid-19, may be exacerbated by inhaling contaminated air (CHICAGO, 2019). People who live in polluted areas are at an increased risk of cancer since most air pollutants are carcinogens. As a result of the chemicals being released into the atmosphere, they end up in plants and waterways. Those who eat the contaminated plants and drink the poisoned water get ill. After that, the toxin moves up the food chain and ends up in our bodies.

Global air quality from historical, present, and future-oriented perspectives.

Particulates in the air (PM) have a more significant influence on known health outcomes, but they are also linked to a broader range of illness outcomes. This has been seen over the last 10 years (Fowler et al., 2020). Seven million premature deaths, substantial agricultural losses, and decreases in biodiversity were blamed on 2019's global air quality (WHO, n.d.). PM's effects on human health are now the most significant, and they are the driving force for legislative changes. As a result, much current legislation focuses on reducing PM volume rather than reducing exposure to individual chemical components. As a result of the SARS Covid-19 epidemic on ozone, global air quality is concerned with current developments. Possible futures are the only ones that can be predicted based on the willingness of countries to enact emission-control measures (Fowler et al., 2020).

Air pollution Strategy

Efforts are being made all around the globe to tackle the increasing causes of air pollution, but more than one approach is required. Controlling Little Village 's air pollution by fiat is one way I'd suggest. A pollution standard should be established so that industries may be assigned allowable discharge levels, and a timeframe for achieving those levels can be set. The community of Little Village should set maximum discharge levels and then allow businesses a year or two to fulfill them. Using this approach, companies may be certain that they receive the appropriate amount of care. A more efficient allocation cannot be guaranteed if this information does not exist, which it seldom does. Some industries may be subjected to responsibilities they cannot bear, while others may have it much easier. We may underestimate how long it will take to implement new standards. We will have to pay more in the long run if we continue to make similar mistakes.
