ENTR 1100 – 2022-01 – Assignment 4 Overview

ENTR 1100: ENTREPRENEURIAL INQUIRY – SPRING 2022

Instructor: John Grant I [email protected]

ASSIGNMENT 4: Journey Map VALUE: 15% of final grade

DEADLINE: See Moodle

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS

ASSIGNMENT?

▪ To begin to create a plan to work towards your personal vision and mission ▪ To research options/opportunities (academic, extra-curricular, and employment-related)

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

1. Personal Vision & Mission

Include your personal vision and mission (these can simply be copied from A2, though ensure you incorporate any feedback that John provided you).

2. Academic Journey Build a calendar that showcases the courses that you will likely need to take each semester until you graduate from KPU. Go through the KPU calendar to assess course requirements/descriptions, etc. Be sure to also include options like international exchange, field schools, co-op, etc. If you are planning to transfer to another institution then explore their calendar as well. If you are near graduation, then identify if there are post-graduate programs (Bachelor’s, Masters, Certificates, etc.) that you may wish to pursue. Tip: You may wish to book an appointment with an Academic Advisor.

3. Paid Experience Journey In order to help you reach your overall personal vision and mission statement (and general short-term goals or vision) what type of paid work experience will help you? Identify some specific opportunities (e.g. specific employers and/or job descriptions that you can consider using as inspiration – the actual job descriptions can be included as an appendix). Consider both short-term opportunities (while you’re going to school), and longer-term opportunities (post-graduation). If you are certain you do not wish to work for anyone else (become a true entrepreneur immediately) then identify how you feel you already have the work experience, perspective, and resources to start your own venture.

4. Extra-Curricular Journey Aside from school and paid work experience, what other types of opportunities can you be taking advantage of, largely from a volunteer or life-experience perspective? For example, are there Boards you should be joining, CASE competitions, or student/community clubs to develop your

skills/abilities? How about travel or living on your own? For each, describe the skills/experience you are looking to gain through each opportunity. Be specific. Simply stating “I will join a Board” will not suffice; find a specific Board and indicate why it’s a good fit for your own development/goals.

ASSESSING YOUR

SUBMISSION

The maximum score that can be earned is 15 points. Completeness and Reflective Quality (10 points) All sections have been completed and its evident that great time and thought have been invested into responses. Notably, responses to each section are clearly connected to the mission/vision, research into specific courses and opportunities (e.g. co-op) are incorporated. Specific opportunities (paid and volunteer) are also referenced/identified and its obvious that you have really thought about building a practical/tangible journey that incorporates these three (academic, paid, extra-curricular)) segments. 3 points: Visual Appeal The final product conveys care, confidence, and professionalism. It is visually formatted very nicely and aims to impress the target audience (the instructor). The submission is easy to navigate, clear, concise, and clearly includes the required components. 2 points: Academic Rigour Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are incorporated appropriately so as not to distract from the main content/intent. Information that is taken from websites or sources beyond the course materials is properly cited using APA formatting.
