Do You Even Lift?
Create a set of hexagonal dumbbell weights that includes 5 lb, 10 lb, 25 lb, and 50 lb weights using Part Configurations generated via a Design Table. Pictured below is a representative dumbbell for clarity (you may neglect the weight lettering). Note: You must have access to Microsoft Excel in order to use Design Tables in Solidworks. If your computer does not have Excel, please install Office or use the lab computers to complete this problem.
· All weights share the same round handle (dimensions as shown above).
· Weights 10 lb or less must have a total length including the handle of 30 cm, must possess identical 45° chamfered edges, and must have identical hexagonal head width.
· Weights greater than 10 lb must have a total length including the handle of 40 cm, must possess identical 45° chamfered edges, and must have identical hexagonal head width.
· Handles and weights are made from grey cast iron (7.2 g cm-3) material. Right click ‘Material’ in the FeatureManager Design tree > Edit Material and navigate to grey cast iron to set the material.
You must appropriately define the size of the hexagonal heads (height x width) to obtain dumbbells within 2% error of the specified weight. Use Evaluate > Mass Properties to assess part weight after you assign the proper material to the part.
Tip: Try using a mirror feature in the middle of the handle to minimize the number of dimensions to set.
