These are the instructions and guidelines for the final paper.
1. Standard MLA format except omit my name from this assignment .
2. You are to have a minimum of 5 (five) sources. These sources will come from scholarly journals, articles, peer reviews, and/or my lectures. You are not allowed to use Wikipedia or any web site that ends in .com. In other words, do not use web sites that are not from the library databases.
3. Even though there is no official page limit, I expect to see at least a minimum of 2 (two) full pages. My advice is to write two and half (2 1/2) to be safe.
4. Do not forget to submit a Works Cited page. This will be the last page of your paper.
5. Do not forget to use in-text citations!
6. You are encouraged to use the sources from your annotated bibliography.
7. You are to look at ALL the short stories we have read this semester and pick a minimum of 1 (you can pick a maximum of 3), and determine the 'Moral/ethical choices, decision making, and the consequences' of at least 1 (or more) characters. Your thesis statement should reflect this as well.
8. Do not forget to introduce your topic.
9. Do not forget that YOU CANNOT use a source until after your 3RD sentence. DO NOT START A SENTENCE with your source. Remember, your sources are only to be used to back up what you are saying not the other way around.
10. Questions do not belong in your paper. DO NOT USE A QUESTION in your paper. DO NOT ANNOUNCE either. Instead of writing "I believe" or "In this paper......" omit those useless words and just write what you want to say.
In your essay, you must accomplish the following in order to receive full credit for the critical thinkingcomponent of the assignment.
· Explanation of issues: Issue/problem to be considered critically is stated clearly and described comprehensively, delivering all relevant information necessary for full understanding.
· Evidence: Information is taken from source(s) with enough interpretation/evaluation to develop a comprehensive analysis or synthesis. Viewpoints of experts are questioned thoroughly.
· Position: Specific position is imaginative, taking into account the complexities of an issue. (This means that you have written a sophisticated thesis.) Limits of position are acknowledged. Others' points of view are synthesized within position (Basically, these two things are the discussion of the opposing view and rebuttal.)
· Conclusions and related outcomes: (Other terms might be “implications and consequences”) Conclusions and related outcomes are logical and reflect student’s informed evaluation and ability to place evidence and perspectives discussed in priority order.
· Additionally, your essay will earn the highest points in the component area of written communication if it meets the following criteria.
· Context of and Purpose for Writing: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of context, audience, and purpose of a proposal essay.
· Content Development: Use appropriate, relevant, and compelling content to illustrate mastery of a proposal essay.
· Genre and Disciplinary Conventions: Properly format and organize the essay in MLA style.
· Sources and Evidence: Incorporate at least two citations in each paragraph from at least two library database sources.
· Control of Syntax and Mechanics: Use graceful language that skillfully communicates meaning to readers with clarity and fluency, making almost no errors.
You will have two (2) paragraphs per source. The first paragraph is about the source, and the 2ND paragraph is what you think about the source.
