Subject: Audience Analysis Memo Assignment

I have decided to dive down and look at two different websites that are on the subject manner of cardiac arrest. The two websites that I have chosen are https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sudden-cardiac-arrest/symptoms-causes/syc-20350634, which is more so speaking towards the general public. The other website is https://heartrhythmalliance.org/aa/uk/sudden-cardiac-arrest?gclid=Cj0KCQjwjryjBhD0ARIsAMLvnF8Z5IUdRHHhh-Brr0yd_VsWLHu80LEeFbpx8OGeH_uo1_64RNby4_4aAgoWEALw_wcB, which is primarily speaking to the workers in the healthcare field like nurses or providers.

The mayoclinic.org website is primarily speaking to the general population. The author is still using medical terminology, but is explaining what it is right after so that the general public is able to understand. The author also gives specific instructions for the general public to follow if they happen to come across someone who has had a cardiac arrest. For example, “If you see someone who’s unconscious and not breathing, call 911 or local emergency services. Then begin CPR.” (2023, Mayo). “ Sudden Cardiac Arrest”: . https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sudden-cardiac-. The age ranges are mostly towards the older teens and on upwards, both men and women. Most likely because of the specific instructions and tasks that has to be performed effectively. On the other hand, the heartrhythmalliance.org website is primarily speaking to the healthcare individuals who have an education or a degree in the healthcare field. The author gives a fixed definition of cardiac arrest and also other dangerous dysrhythmias and does not go into specific detail as to what it is or how it affects the individual. It seems like the author expects the reader to already know how dangerous the dysrhythmia is and how it affects the patient. For example, “When the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectedly without warning.” (2023, Sudden)” Sudden Cardiac Arrest”: https:// heartrhythmalliance .org/aa/uk/sudden-cardiac-.

The secondary audience for the website mayoclinic.org is most likely individuals who have family members with heart diseases. They possibly would want to be more informed of what the worst possible outcome that could happen if the heart were to be struggling to beat and then stop. Other individuals who are on this website could be upcoming nurses or techs that want to learn more about cardiac patients. For the website heartrhythmalliane.org the secondary audience could be actual people diagnosed with cardiac disease and want to learn all the dysrhythmias and what they mean.

For the website mayoclonic.org the author uses persuasive techniques to draw in his audience such as breaking down the information to help the audience understand. This strategy helps the author connect with the audience and coax the audience into finishing the article. For the website heartrhythmalliance.org the author uses a different approach. Since the primary audience is most likely educated healthcare workers, the author uses a direct approach towards the audience, and does not exaggerate the information since the audience already has some form of knowledge on the subject manner. This makes the information short, concise, and gets to the point quicker.

Both websites use technical language in their articles. Both websites use medical jargon in their articles, and it is through the entire site. One example, “Emergency treatment for sudden cardiac arrest includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and shocks to the heart with a device called an automated external defibrillator (AED)” (2023,Mayo) ” Sudden Cardiac Arrest”: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sudden-cardiac-. Here the author uses multiple words in the medical field that is not seen in everyday society. Another example, “Long QT Syndrome (LQTS) is a heart rhythm disorder that can cause a disturbance in the electrical system of the heart” (2023,Sudden) “ Sudden Cardiac Arrest”: https://heartrhythmalliance.org/aa/uk/sudden-cardiac-. Here the author uses the EKG intervals that a non-healthcare worker would probably not know.

The average sentence and paragraph are roughly normal of that to any article. I do believe that this is because of who the author is targeting. For instance, the mayoclinic.org website the author is most likely not trying to overwhelm the general public. As a result, the author shortens the sentences and paragraphs, so the reader is more comfortable reading all the way through and not intimidated. The author for heartrhythmalliance.org is writing to more informed individuals, so the author does not have to exaggerate anything since the audience is already somewhat informed. The author makes the information more concise and to the point.

Both authors make their articles formal. This is probably due to the fact that the information that is being provided is a very serious topic, so the authors both put together their articles in a formal manner so that the audience can see a well laid out paper with well written information.

In both websites there are advertising. The advertising ads are displaying some form of product that promotes health. These ads would inform me about the audience is in some form of unhealthy state and may be drawn to these ads and products.

In both websites, there are pictures and videos. This helps the audience visualize the heart or EKG and see where the issue is. Both websites are actually very similar due to the fact that they are talking about the same complication, and both have the same information.
