Pride and Prejudice Project
english 12 evaluative project requirements
Short Essays: The written portion of your book report is worth 50% of the overall project grade. There are two short essays that you are to type and submit to Turnitin.com. You are to avoid using subjective and informal language [unacceptable personal pronouns (I, we, you, us, etc.) and slang for example]. Both essays are to be submitted on Turnitin.com by Tuesday, December 15 before 1:59 pm. The two short essays are:
1. Character Evaluation (2-3 pages in length): Identify the main character of your novel. Analyze how this main character changes from the beginning of the text to the end. (What plot developments, as well as other characters, influence the character along his/her journey?). What are your thoughts on this character (Remember, you cannot use personal pronouns in your writing)? You must provide a minimum of 2 specific examples with 2 specific quotes from your book.
2. Novel Evaulation (2-3 pages in length) Pick an additional area of the novel to evaluate. Perhaps you will give your thoughts regarding key points in the plot or or give your insights into some of the other characters. When you conclude, explain how what you evaluated contributed to your overall evaluation of the novel (whether or not you liked the novel). You must provide a minimum of 2 specific examples with 2 specific quotes from your book.
Promotional Material: The promotional material portion of the book report is 25% of the overall project grade. The list from which you chose your current book will also be the list we use to select a book for the critical analysis paper in second semester. Because of this, your promotional material should “sell” your book. It ought to tell enough about the book that anyone who sees your poster will have an idea of what happens in
the story and whether they’d like it. Promotional material can include (but is not limited to):
1.) Create a digital book jacket (look at an actual book jacket before you attempt this.) 2.) Do a digital collage/poster showing pictures that related to the book, including a sentence or two beside each one to show its significance (can be created by hand and scanned as a PDF or submitted as a jpeg file). 3.) Craft a model or sculpture from something in the novel (again can be submitted as a jpeg file) 4.) Visualize a timeline or flow chart of the novel 5.) Make a graphic reperesentation of an event or character within the story 6.) Have a different idea? Get apprioval from Mr. Siemer
In-Class Essay:
The essay portion of your book report is worth 25% of the overall project grade. You should be
prepared to answer a question relating to the thematic development in the text and to discuss how the plot contributes to the development of that theme. You will not be allowed to use your book, so make
sure you know all the details of your book. You will have approximately 45 minutes to complete the in-
class essay portion of the book report project in class on Wednesday, December 16 or Thursday, December 17 (dependent on block schedule).
Your promotional material must include the following: • Lots of color • Images/Illustrations • Must be visually appealing (Feel free to be as creative as you wish) • A minimum of 3 significant quotes from your book must appear on your poster.
“Place the page number at the end of the quote in parentheses like this” (154). • Minimum size for poster-like projects: 22 inches by 28 inches (this is the standard size)
The promotional material is due to me via myWCS by Thursday, December 17 before 11:59 pm.
