English 112 wk2
Your first assignment for this week is to select and read a short story from the Short Stories folder under Module Two Assignments. Once you have selected and read a short story and decided that you will analyze it for the rhetorical analysis, please briefly discuss the story, including the four rhetorical elements (author, audience, topic, and purpose). Feel free to discuss the background and premise of the story, but do not recount the entire plot. No outside sources should be used for this assignment unless you are doing general research regarding the background of your author or the story itself.
Once you have briefly discussed your selection, be sure to also discuss why you have selected this particular story (i.e. what drew you to it, why you are interested in this author/topic, etc.) and how it fits in with the other topics of this era in which you are interested (for example, civil rights, race relations, women’s rights, etc.). Do you plan on studying a similar work when you select a play or novel for the Literary Analysis? Why or why not? If you have already selected a play or novel in preparation for the Literary Analysis, you can discuss that too.
Once you have posted your initial response of 200 words or more, please respond to at least two of your fellow classmates with responses of 100 words or more. The goal is not only to get to know your classmates a little bit; it is to engage in discussion about the course, the time period/works we will be studying, and how you will relate to both. Do not be afraid to ask questions!
