1. The rhetorical analysis focus on the ways media has been emphasising on women traits and how they are trying to improve peoples’ perception on women.

2. The three reasons supporting Jennifer Newsom claims are:

a. Inspirational stories of successful women.

b. Sexual orientation of women and their beauty

c. The role of media in proving the capabilities of women.

3. Thesis statement: in the document of “Miss Representation”, Jennifer Newsom argues that the ability of a women to have a leadership role and impact the society is determined by her beauty and sexual orientation. Media is playing a central role in helping the society understand the capability of women through showing stories of other women. Inspirational stories of other women have encouraged the youth as they act as role model.

4. Documentary proof shows that Jennifer and other women who have been able to live a standard lifestyle after influence by media. Women are outcompeting men in most sectors. In careers, women are having best professions which are well paying. The document also proves that women may be given a role in the society depending on the activeness during her youth period, physical attractiveness and her sexuality. Some women have givens top positions because of their beauty.

In the United States, women are trying to do away with peoples’ perception towards women though American is ranked 90th in the whole world for having women in the national legislatures. Women are venturing in music industries and movies and proving to society that they have the same potentiality as men.

In conclusion, the document of “Miss Representation” portrays the capability of women in the society and eating disorders. Jennifer play a key role in educating other women and exposing their worthiness through use of media. Women’s’ power should not be determined by their beauty and sexual orientation but their ability to influence the society and have positive change.

Teacher (2): I understand that rhetorical analysis can be a difficult genre to comprehend completely.  Remember, the argument in the original material is secondary to HOW that argument is presented.  Your thesis statement should reflect the methods used in the documentary to present the message and whether or not those methods were successful.  You should *not* be echoing the argument from the documentary in your thesis statement.  To assist you in understanding how to formulate a thesis statement for your rhetorical analysis, here is a link to a helpful document.
