ENGL 2131 Research Project

Use one of the writers in your ENGL 2131 textbook as inspiration to create a powerpoint presentation, a prezi, or a short video consisting of historical background, analysis of at least one written selection by your author, and 15-20 relevant images. At the end of your presentation, include the urls (for online materials) or publication information (for printed materials) that you used as you completed your presentation or video. Shoot for 15-20 slides if you’re doing a presentation, or the equivalent if you choose to create a video.

You may choose a writer that we covered on our syllabus or a writer that we did NOT cover; the most important requirement is that your writer must be included in our textbook.

Please submit your completed projects to the D2L dropbox called “Research Project.” Like your research paper, your research projects will be automatically submitted to turnitin for comparison. Please note that turnitin does not support certain PowerPoint features such as animations. If your presentation will contain animations that you want me to see, please submit it to the dropbox AND email it to me. That way, I can leave feedback in D2L but still see the presentation as you intended it.

Presentations will be evaluated for their thoroughness, visual appeal, and language. Grammar and spelling aren’t everything, but they count!

Tips:

**I presentation, you do NOT have to write in complete sentences; however, each slide should exhibit parallelism. Example:

Biography:

· Born in 1856 in North Dakota

· Attended Harvard College

· Married in 1880

· Published numerous academic articles

Note how each bullet point begins with a verb. You can also use other methods to achieve parallelism:

Biography:

· Birth: 1856, in North Dakota

· College Education: Harvard University

· Marriage: 1880

· Early work: Numerous articles in academic journals

**Don’t put too much text on a side. Have some pity on your poor instructor, who can’t seem to find the right reading glasses for her needs.

**Choose a writer whose work you enjoyed and whose background interests you. You’ll become an expert on him/her by the time you complete this project.

**Questions? Email me or call me [email protected] or (706) 368-7702. You may also text me at (706) 409-1515. If you text me, include your name in the text.

The research materials folder contains a sample presentation you can use as a guide. The sample was written for a similar assignment in a different class, but I think you’ll get the idea.
