Pro-Position Proposal

Please use this document as a template for your proposal by filling in the sections with blue font.

SUBJECT: Pros of vaccinations

RESEARCH QUESTION: Who benefits from vaccinations?

CLAIM: Children, communities, and future generations benefit from

vaccinations.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL: I knew I wanted to work with the vaccinations topic because

there are at least 2 established points of view on the subject:

pro-vaxers and anti-vaxers, making this a good topic choice

for the final paper in this class where I have to present both

sides of the argument. After a bit of initial research, I found

that one side dealt mostly in statistics and the other side used

a lot of personal testimonies, but both can motivate

audiences in their own ways. The thesis should work well

since it focuses on 3 potential audiences. Most people think

in terms of children when they think vaccinations, but their

impact goes beyond that, so I’d like to emphasize this

approach in my paper. As far as complications go, I do not

think I’ll have problem finding research that supports the

use of vaccinations. I may have issues, though, convincing

an audience who has already decided how they feel about

this topic. It is emotional topic, so presenting logical

reasoning will only go so far in countering an emotional

argument.

3 SOURCE COLLECTION via a Synthesis Matrix

A Synthesis Matrix is basically a visual representation of our collected resources. It shows the

breakdown of topic to specific evidence. Please fill in the table below with your 3 collected

resources (you should have at least one from this week’s discussion board). Some sources may

cover more than one pro-point, while others just prove the one pro-point.

1st Pro-Point:

Children benefit from

vaccinations.

2nd Pro-Point:

Communities benefits

from vaccinations.

3rd Pro-Point:

Future generations

benefit from

vaccinations.

(Lee & Carson-

Dewitt, 2017)

“…individual

children should be

protected against

these diseases through

vaccinations that

enable their young

bodies to develop

antibodies” (para. 7)

“…all children should be

protected as a means of

wiping out the bacteria or

viruses that cause these

diseases. Vaccinations

(sometimes called

immunizations) are

simultaneously a matter

of individual and

community concern”

(para. 7)

(Goldman, 2018) “Medical advances,

such as vaccinations,

antimicrobial agents,

antihypertensive

agents, and the

treatment of heart

disease, are estimated

to account for 85% to

90% of this most

recent increase in US

life expectancy”

(para. 4)

(Bach & Goad,

2015)

The rise of community

pharmacies that offer

vaccines, like the flu

shot, supplement the

health care system. Since

these pharmacies offer

vaccine services after

regular business hours,

the opportunities to reach

the local communities

have significantly

increased.
