INSTRUCTIONS:   Type a one-paragraph response to the writing prompt in the box below. Please refer to the paragraph example for general content and format requirements. Paragraphs

Describe your favorite or least favorite room. It does not have to be a room in your house.  Try to avoid writing about your bedroom, kitchen, living room, or bathroom.

Consider the following aspects when preparing your paragraph:

Topic Sentence:

Topic sentence is clearly defined and interesting enough to introduce the paragraph in an engaging way

Topic sentence could have a clearer and more focused subject or is overly general

Evidence that attempt was made to write a sentence to begin the paragraph, but topic sentence is too broad or doesn’t accurately introduce the contents of the paragraph Supporting Sentences:

Supporting detail sentences are arranged logically and support the topic sentence with some detail

Supporting detail sentences are arranged logically, but sentences lack descriptive detail

Evidence that an attempt was made to write supporting details, but supporting sentences lack unity, focus, and coherence Concluding Sentence:

Concluding sentence is clearly defined and sums up the paragraph effectively without merely restating the main point

Concluding sentence does a fair job of re-emphasizing the thesis

Evidence that an attempt was made to write a sentence to sum up the paragraph, but concluding sentence merely repeats the topic sentence. Style/Grammar:

No spelling, grammar, or usage errors

A few minor spelling, grammar, or usage errors
