ENG675 – Coursework [25% of unit mark]
2018-19 Page 1 of 1
Objectives The main objective of this project is to give students opportunities to practice tolerance design. Introduction The work will involve development of 2D drawings where the students will select tolerances and fits along side with all other standard requirements. Students will get feedback on each part of the work. Student Input: Students will work in groups, but each student should share the knowledge and skills with the group members. The work requires an input of about 10 hrs
Coursework contents following tasks
1. For the provided copy of the assembly drawing:
analyse the mechanism and select at least 5 different fits;
provide the completed assembly drawing, a description of the mechanism and your comments;
briefly justify the selection of each fit (Example: Shaft and Gear wheel Ø10H7/k6 - a preferred tight fit for dismountable shaft/hub)
[5 marks]
2. Calculate and allocate tolerances for non-standard parts using a tolerance analysis to secure
an appropriate axial clearance (1±0.3 mm).
[5 marks]
3. From the assembly drawing that you have been given, select three parts including at least one rotational and make standard detailed design drawings incorporating all requirements to achieve interchangeability in mass production including tolerances allocated in Task 2. All drawings must comply with the technical drawing standards and to be produced by one of the drawing techniques, which can be selected only once:
by hand (no drawing kit is allowed); [5 marks]
using a drawing kit; [5 marks]
using CAD. [5 marks]
