ENG402 – Discussion 1.3

For my first document I chose an article in an issue of a Vogue magazine. The article uses delicate fonts and titles, but just enough to be able to catch attention to the eye. It also is divided up into columns especially around the main image to draw the reader in to not only focus on the image, but also to the article itself. In the illustration, there here is a lot of white space around this image, which is necessary to allow the title to be emphasized to the reader. Looking at the placement of the columns, it cuts off part of the image. The image should be made smaller to allow less of a clash between the writing and the image, making it easier to read. I want to be able to use a similar style with the light fonts and colors to bring the reader into my document, but not very aggressively. I also like the way the font of the article and the title both match and go together, which is something I want to use for my own document.

The second document I chose is an article from a website called EdTech Update. This article has a similar layout to the Vogue magazine by using columns to divide up elements of the document. This article uses different fonts and styles to emphasize their subheadings throughout the piece. I want to be able to use this type of style in my own work to emphasize the different elements of my own document. The article also bolds and emphasizes the authors name, to make sure the reader is aware of who is writing the paper. In addition, the article has the title of the piece in the center of the article with a very large font, which stands out to the reader wanting them to read more about the subject.
