“ Teaching Students with Dyslexia”

Different children learn at different paces, and reading is just like any other skill. Children find reading as a challenge for one moment or another. However, if at some point reading becomes a consistent struggle that leaves a child lagging behind his colleagues, then that child may be suffering from a learning disorder called dyslexia. This kind of problem is associated with difficulty in reading. It affects a child's aptitude for recognizing and manipulating the sounds in language. Children who have dyslexia may end up having a challenging moment when it comes to decoding new words. This brings about difficulties with reading, spelling, and writing capabilities.

There are ways in which people with dyslexia can be assisted to read and write. Federal law ensures schools provide children with the necessary help (Hartford, 2017). However, many schools across the country deny students with dyslexia proper treatment by failing to identify them. It is argued that persistent punctuation and spelling requirements during examinations in many schools limit academic achievement for dyslexic children. Therefore, effective strategies are supposed to be put up for teachers who are working with these children every day.

Through ultimate help and language strategies for compensating for these children's weakness in decoding, students living with dyslexia can learn faster and develop more capabilities in reading and thrive academically (Mills, 2017). It is estimated that one of them is living with a dyslexia disorder in a group of five children. Most experts used to say that dyslexia used to occur mostly in boys compared to girls, but currently, research proves that dyslexia affects both boys and girls in an equal measure.

To begin with, early identification is the first attempt and primary key to defeating dyslexia. Therefore, the school districts should incorporate ways to identify children living with dyslexia because it will assist mostly in identifying students who are mostly left unidentified or diagnosed with dyslexia. One of the reasons why the school districts are supposed first to identify these students to come up with new and more strategies concerning the teaching process is that this disorder affects the child's ability to read and their self-esteem. Moreover, students suffer from low self-esteem because they are not aware of what is going on in them unfortunately, these students get to a point of being accused of not putting enough effort into learning how to read and write. Therefore, by revising some of the strategies they use in dealing with these cases, students will greatly be able to build their self-esteem.

Once they have identified students suffering from this disorder, they can develop strategies on how to assist them. School districts ensure dyslexic children have easy time learning by assisting them in discovering that they are more than smart and capable of becoming the best of themselves. They can also incorporate other strategies when teaching students with dyslexia. According to Mill (2017), students should be engaged in different ways to improve their academic performance. This could be done by teachers who will recognize activities that these students living with dyslexia disorder enjoy and feel good getting involved in. This could include sports, music classes, or any other activity that will play a huge role in boosting these students' level of confidence and understanding.

Suffering from dyslexia may also possess some behavioral issues because of auditory processing or dues to executive function deficits (Reading Recovery, 2017). They may misbehave to avoid any form of embarrassment when reading audibly. If the teacher responsible for that student assumes that the reason behind the reading issues is attention problems, their dyslexia may go unrecognized early enough. With the implementation of the best strategies, this can easily be identified and diagnosed early.

It is right to conclude that there is an urgent need for incorporating more strategies by the school districts about teaching students who have dyslexia and how to intervene early enough concerning their educational process. The urgency for the in-depth training initiatives for teachers focusing specifically on dyslexia is supposed to be given priority. Lack of training on teachers has appeared to be the primary reason for the massive increment of cases of students living with dyslexia, both who are identified and those who are not identified.
