Slide Designs and Visual Aides

Consider the importance of visuals in connecting with an audience. Discuss an experience in your life when a picture, drawing or other visual had a significant impact. Include in your response whether the same impact could have occurred if you heard about the image rather than experiencing it visually.

Less Is More!

Class, one error presenters often make in PPTs is to attempt to pack too much onto one slide, especially too many words. Not only does this appear overwhelming at first glance, but one of two other problems will happen: 1) The presenter will simply read to the audience, which is poor delivery; or 2) The presenter will put the audience in the situation of trying to read the slide while listening to him/her make other points. Either the audience is distracted by boredom or information overload. Visuals, of course, are an excellent way to avoid these scenarios. Text can always be used, of course, but more often than not, less is more.

Class, when practicing creating PPT slides in this class, have you run into this dilemma of wanting to say more on a slide than what you should to avoid crowing of information? How did you handle it?

The PowerPoints that I have created I make sure that I review the final draft and only provide what I think is the necessary information that my audience needs in my communication without being too wordy.
