Instructions: Watch the film clips listed on the next page. Choose five of them (each from a different film) and analyze them addressing all of the following criteria for EACH film clip.

How To Submit:

Type up your analyses in a format similar to the outline above and submit it whether through the submission link in Blackboard.

There is NO word count limit (minimum or maximum). Quality is more important than quantity. Make sure to analyze the scenes very closely.

Criteria:

1) FORM—breaks into two broad categories

a. Shots

i. Composition

· Describe the composition/ relationship between the object and the frame.

ii. Camera Angle

· Describe the angle and how it affects the composition or character development.

iii. Camera Motion

· Describe any camera motion and what it may mean for the development of the narrative.

b. Cuts

i. Continuity editing

· Describe any continuity edits and importance (if any)

ii. Montage

· Describe any montage and how it may work to develop a more complex idea.

2) MEANING

a. Describe what the scene means for the larger narrative or theme(s) of the film. This should include:

i. character development

ii. plot structure

iii. larger thematic considerations (interpretation)
