Reflective Essay WRITING ASSIGNMENT GUIDE
PURPOSE:
The purpose of your reflective is essay is for you to have an opportunity to express in what ways you think you have grown as a collegiate rhetorical essay writer. You should ponder what you think were your strengths and weaknesses and how those two aspects of your writing changed this semester. You can start the essay, for example, “As I reflect on my writing process this semester, I think that am a better rhetorical essay writer because . . . These are my strengths . . . These are my weaknesses . . . This is a description of how I addressed both: ”
WRITING GUIDE
· Your portfolio will be one document with three back-to-back parts that are merged together to form one running document with NO page separations/breaks: (PART I) Reflective Essay, (PART II) your first revised Final Essay of your choosing, and (PART III) your second revised Final Essay of your choosing.
· Your Reflective Essay (PART I) should consist of highlights your essay writing and samples from either your essay drafts and/or your final essays that serve as a showcase of the kind of improvements and challenges that occurred in you as a writer.
· You can address this essay to me as though it were a letter if you want. E.g., Dear Dr. Bridges,
· This essay is not about the content of your essays but, instead, it is about your reflections on your writing process this semester. So avoid talking about the topics you choose.
· You should focus on strategies that you used that helped you develop critical rhetorical arguments.
TIP: To cite examples, cut and paste sentences from your essay into your reflective essay that showcase your development as a writer.
FORMAT
Your reflective essay should be located at the beginning of your portfolio file document.
The file name should be as follows:
Bridges.YourLastName.YourFirstName.ENG1301Semesteryear.CRN #.DaysTime
NOTE: Type in your class CRN number into your file name after the letters “CRN.”
Your essay should be 3-5 pages in length, 12 font, Times New Roman or Courier, and double-spaced.
You should have your MLA course heading on it.
You must have a WORKS CITED page at the end of each essays.
POSTING REQUIREMENTS
You will post this essay on BBL by the due date. There is no grace period for this assignment.
