PORTFOLIO WRITING GUIDE

Purpose:

The purpose of your Portfolio is to give you an opportunity to showcase your best two rhetorical essays from this semester. Your portfolio also gives you one last chance to revise your final essays if you choose. Faculty members other than me assess your Portfolio to make sure that the Department as a whole recommends your readiness for ENG 1302. This assessment also offers rater reliability by my peers so you can feel confident about your potential success in ENG 1302.

Writing Guide:

· Your portfolio will be one document with three back-to-back parts that are merged together to form one running document with NO page separations/breaks: (PART I) Reflective Essay, (PART II) your first revised Final Essay of your choosing, followed by the Works Cited page for this essay on its own page, and (PART III) your second revised Final Essay of your choosing, followed by the Works Cited page for this essay on its own page.

· Your Reflective Essay, your first Final Essay and your second Final Essay should all have titles.

· Your Portfolio should have a double-spaced running header that starts at page 1. To get a running header, select “Header” in your toolbar and type the following information at the top of the page:

NOTE: You must select “Page Number” in the toolbar to add your page numbers at the top right of your page. Selecting the page number format is all you need to do. The numbering will then occur automatically, starting with page 1.

· Your portfolio file name should be as follows:

Bridges.YourLastName.YourFirstName.ENG1301Spring2021.CRN(#)_ClassDayTime

(NOTE: Type in your class CRN number into your file name after the letters “CRN.”)

CRN numbers are found in your Blackboard portal for this course in the white box at the top left of the home page. It’s a five-digit number that appears after ‘ENG 1301’. Please do not include the hashtag symbol or the parentheses.

(NOTE: Your class day and time should have the first letter of the days and the time with no abbreviation between the numbers. E.g., MW830 or TR1000).
