Self-Assessment Reflection Essay

You will compose a thoughtful and fully-developed Self-Assessment Reflection Essay that carefully

considers all of your hard work this semester. You will discuss your Writing Projects, your Writing Process, and

your Development as a Reader, Writer, and Critical Thinker. Focus on celebrating your hard work and

accomplishments. Your fully developed responses to the provided bullet-pointed questions/prompts will serve

as the basis for this essay. In order to fully develop your responses, you will need to be precise and rely upon

specific examples from your hard work, accomplishments, and experiences in this course.

This essay should be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced with 1-inch margins and be

at least 3 full pages in length. Submit/upload your thoughtful and fully-developed Self-Assessment Reflection

Essay as a Microsoft Word document on Canvas by end of day on Saturday 12/18 at the very latest. (No

coursework for this class can be accepted after end of day on Saturday 12/18).

Writing Projects

For this course, you completed the following Writing Projects: WP #1: Narrative Essay, WP #2: Written

Report Essay, WP #3: Position Argument Essay, WP #4: Resume and Cover Letter.

Think back upon your experiences with each of these Writing Projects and fully explain/develop your

responses to the following prompts. Be as specific as possible.

• What specific topic and main points did you write about for each of your writing projects?

• Describe your unique experience with each of your writing projects.

• Which of the writing projects did you find most challenging? What particular difficulties did you face?

• Which of the writing projects did you find most enjoyable? What aspects of it did you enjoy?

• Which of your completed writing projects are you most proud of and why?

The Writing Process

In this course, the writing process included, but was not limited to, the following: brainstorming, assigned

readings, homework assignments, reading responses, discussion posts, interacting with the assigned research

sources, properly citing your sources in MLA format, composing an initial draft, the revision process, creating a

Works Cited page, and completing a final draft.

Your writing process focused on many of the following elements: MLA format, in-text citations, direct

quotes, paraphrase, the MLA style Works Cited page, paragraph composition and development, clearly stated

main points, fully supported main points, developing each distinct point in its own body paragraph, weaving

direct quotes into your sentences, following up each quotation with further discussion/explanation, drawing

connections between sources, establishing an ongoing conversation, joining the conversation, quality of writing,

sentence construction, etc.

Think back upon the many different steps, elements, and aspects of your writing process for each writing

project and fully explain/develop your responses to the following prompts. Be as specific as possible.

• Describe the hard work you put into the writing process for each of your writing projects. How was each writing process unique? For each of your writing projects, which aspects of the writing process did you

focus on?

• Identify 2-3 aspects of the writing process that you found most challenging. Explain the difficulties you faced with each of these aspects.

• Identify 2-3 aspects of the writing process that you found helpful. Explain how each of these aspects helped you improve and/or complete your work for this class.

You as a Reader, Writer, and Critical Thinker

Think back upon the substantial amount of reading, writing, and critical thinking this course has required of

you and fully explain/develop your responses to the following prompts. Be as specific as possible.

• Which of the writing projects did you find most challenging as a reader, writer, and critical thinker and why? What particular difficulties did you face?

• Based on your experiences and hard work, how have you improved as a reader, writer, and critical thinker?

• What do you think are your strongest skills as a reader, writer, and critical thinker?

• In the future, how would you like to further improve your skills and abilities?
