You will need to use a minimum of 3 outside sources, at least one of which must be from the library databases or library here at Valencia. Your essay must be a minimum of 1,400 words.
A social problem is intentionally being left as vague - it is open to interpretation. Basically it is a problem in society (either the USA, Florida, Orlando/Kissimmee, Valencia, or some other framing community) that can be fixed by that community. This could be through laws, through organizations, through education or some other means. As long as the problem is not something you say needs to be fixed by people stopping being the problem, then odds are it works as a social problem.
As a word of advice, I would suggest choosing a somewhat smaller topic, rather than focusing on a broad national or especially a global issue, as this will be a lot to cover in a single 1400+ word essay, and will cause you to either have to skip important things, or else to have to talk too broadly/generally about some things. I would also suggest you avoid discussing the following topics: gun rights, abortion, gay marriage, and the death penalty, as these are all very divisive topics, which are so polarizing, so opposite in their opinions, it makes them difficult to write about.
