Saint Vincent Health System EMR Task Force
While forming a task force charged with both the selection and implementation of an EMR system, there are quite a number of considerations that Dr. Craig Johnson –the newly appointed CEO- should have in mind and put into account. First, there is a need to have people on board who have a perfect understanding of the new system and are in agreement with its implementation. The first member of the task force should be Ms. Leigh Rice. Ms. Rice, the director of information services, welcomes Dr. Johnson’s idea of introducing an EMR system. Ms. Rice and her department have for a while been enthusiastic following the changes in the EMR system. Ms. Rice has confidence that her team could effectively carry out the new initiative and had her group compile information that they had collected from various vendors concerning different capabilities and systems.
There is also a need to have a project manager in the EMR task force. While selecting the project manager, Dr. Johnson should ensure that the project manager is technically minded. Having a technically minded project manager is important has he/she would able to understand the various nuances and platforms that are unique in each system (Levy, 2007). The best person that would fit for this position would be Dr. Johnson’s daughter Ellen.
There is a need to have an application analysis in the task force. The role of an application analyst would be to connect the concept and ideas that the institution wants in place. The best person that Dr. Johnson would pick for this role could be Austin Mitchell. Previously, Mr. Mitchell had collected some information on the advantage and disadvantage of implementing an EMR system.
Fourth, the EMR task force should also consist of an application developer. The application developer would have the role of developing a portion of the EMR project once its requirements are formed (Levy, 2007). Some of his/her roles would be to design and implement applications for different departments.
The fifth person that should be included in the EMR task force should be a quality assurance test engineer. One the application developer has finished installing the EMR system, then the test phase may now start (Levy, 2007). At this point, the quality assurance test engineer with sufficient expertise in the EMR system being developed will be required to test the new system from different viewpoints.
