The contemporary healthcare sector faces many dynamics that present challenges and opportunities. Advancement in technology, globalization, and competition in the industry are among the components that have significantly altered the manner providers engage in their daily activities. Again, the calls for better and quality services provision have led to innovation-led approaches. Another important challenge facing the sector is the shortage of clinical staff. Due to a shortage of clinical staff-patient safety are in danger in most of the health care centers. It is very difficult for low staff to handle the number of patients. That’s why the shortage has a negative impact on the health care center.
One of the primary issues is demographic change, in the last few years the enormous gathering of more established staff is leaving and there are fewer youngsters accessible to dominate. This is particularly obvious in the Public sector, especially in the municipalities, where the wellbeing and welfare administrations are tied down. Due to an increase in life expectancy, and the advancement in technologies increase the demand for the health care sector. Elder people with new diseases also cause an increase in the demand for the health care sector. The challenge for the health care sector is to work with a declining workforce and constrained budgetary methods. The health care sector is the most significant worry for each nation (Christiane Bode, 2018 ). They heavily rely on the health care sector. It is significant for the health care sector to enlist and hold staff. The deficiencies of staff are additionally one of the primary issues in the coming years and particularly in certain geographical areas. Governments and (expert) associations are particularly engrossed with the competency of the medicinal services experts. A significant point is along these lines how to guarantee quality and lucidness in the health care sectors. Furthermore, patterns like welfare innovation expanded proficiency; volunteering, and so on change the necessary capabilities among medicinal services staff, and may even be able to possibly substitute staff. The report looks into the recruitment and retention challenges in the health sector. In particular, the discussion will evaluate the situation at Chatuge Regional Hospital in North Georgia. The facility is over 54 years old – currently offering emergency, trauma, and heart services. Most of their staff is aged. There is a great need for regular training and motivation of clinical staff to foster efficiency and productivity in the provision of health services.
Chatuge Hospital, like other facilities, experience challenges in recruitment and retention of experienced health professionals. Hospital administrators should continuously work on initiatives such as talent development and motivation to ensure the retention of staff and the provision of quality services. They do their best to retain staff by showing concern for them like they encourage their staff to gain new skills. They also provide them opportunities like education, promotions. Now a day everybody needs respect if they give respect to their staff they will retain (Peoples always remember the way you fell them). Recruitment and retention of health professionals remain a significant concern in the quest to ensure patient satisfaction and access to quality services. The trend has seen most hospitals experience high staff turnover and operational costs. One of the main reasons is an inadequate system and inexperienced management. Leadership strategies in an organization impact the productivity, motivation, and retention of staff (Kroezen et al., 2015). If hospital management is not competent enough then it faces a lot of problems like staff turnover. Therefore the management should be competent. Hospital administrators need to work on elaborate human resources initiatives that capture needs and interests. The issues highlighted are essential in not only improving service provision but also enhance the satisfaction and retention of clinical staff.
Several challenges hamper the process of the improvement of the health facilities and professionals. Not giving a proper opportunity, Respect, Responsibility, Relaxation time, rewards and inadequate remuneration of the nurses erodes the image of the nursing profession. In the years gone, most people respected the nursing field due to the professionalism exuded by the personnel. However, the remuneration factor erodes the image of the profession in that the nurses earn low wages while they invest significantly in training and performance of their respective jobs (Kroezen et al., 2015). If high wages are given to them, this will increase their interest. In response, they work with more courage. A good work environment also affects. If a good working environment is provided it will increase efficiency. The nurses get de-motivated when working in a less conducive environment. Also, the challenges highlighted above have effects on patient safety and satisfaction (Anitha & N., 2016). The issue undermines the reputation of a health facility; thereby, leading to low-level sustainability of the business. Healthcare care providers need to take steps that will lead to the formulation of strategies that appreciates diversity and universality in the healthcare sector.
The facility needs to train the clinical staff on the basic tenets of culturally-suitable interventions that suit the needs of patients in the region. The move will help in fostering positive patient-nurse relationships and attainment of favorable health outcomes. More so, the decision-making process should be informed about the need to advance patient satisfaction. The application of nursing theory and models is helpful for a nurse educator, including in staffing and leadership (Flott & Lois, 2016). It is also prudent for a nurse educator to understand the needs and interests of clinical staff as a means of providing necessary skill development and support. At times, nurses and ancillary staff may feel less motivated; hence, their discouragement in offering quality services to the patients. Besides, the clinical administrator at Chatuge Regional Hospital should strive to enhance the productivity of the clinical staff through extrinsic motivation strategies. A useful training model should persuade nurses to get appropriate skills while communicating their challenges and opportunities to the relevant individuals (Flott & Lois, 2016). A useful leadership model should provide a clear framework for the evaluation of the expertise of the clinical staff members. The Chatuge Regional Hospital Keep in mind the intensity of progress and development for its staff. Giving their staff important proficient advancement that can improve their retention. In a national nursing overview, 64% who intended to leave their present hospital said they would remain for proficient advancement opportunities.
The hospital seniors must recognize and retrain inadequate staff. If the managers in the hospital are skilled then they handle the staff turnover. This will save the cost of the hospital. The fact is that individuals (staff) don’t stop employments, they quit administrators. It's assessed that 80% of intentional takeoffs from the job are because of poor behavior of seniors. If the behavior of the Hospital senior doctors is good with their lower-level staff they will never leave the job. It is concluded from some researches that a fourth of workers would take a superior supervisor over a boost in salary. Therefore there should be an appraisal of seniors, all those seniors that are unskilled should be trained. A survey should be performed to check whether the employees are satisfied with the managers. Sometimes employees are not satisfied with the seniors, that’s why they leave their job. (Christiane Bode, 2018 ) Sometimes managers do not give proper time to the hospital vision (Like treat well with juniors) and as a result, the staff not performs their duties well and this damages the hospital's reputation. The management of the hospital should arrange sessions for seniors and juniors employees together. This will help them to cover the gap between them. In this way, their trust is built upon each other. Sometimes working conditions are not suitable for nurses that’s why they leave the job. Hospital management needs to address this issue.
The predominant shift - day shift has a lot more noteworthy occupation fulfillment than any other shift, including night shifts, evening shifts, pivoting shift, and others. This implies non-predominant shifts frequently feel undetectable; seniors mostly focus on the day shift, that’s why the employees who worked in other shifts feel demotivated. The hospitals should realize that they are liable for patient’s day in and day out. They should realize that they are not weighting their center that routes with groups and furthermore not with administration advancement. They should make a schedule in such a way that rotates duties month to month. Shifts are managed by a skilled manager who is responsible for the rotation of duties in a fair manner (Anitha & N., 2016). The overall goal is to offer a multidimensional solution that addresses issues such as skills’ constraints, cultural needs, and de-motivation of nurses.
In conclusion, health facilities need to work on effective programs that promote the welfare of stakeholders, including patients and clinical staff. The move has benefits in enabling access to quality and cost-effective services. The human resource department at Chatuge Regional Hospital has an opportunity to improve services by addressing the needs and interests of health professionals. It is necessary to work on effective strategies that promote employee motivation, talent development, and retention.
