EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Thesis statement

Different people handle their emotions differently. The way a person handles his or her feelings is usually dependent on a number of factors. This study examines the different factors that may influence how people carry or express themselves emotionally and how one can learn to control their emotions intelligently for the betterment of oneself and others.

Introduction

Human beings are made with different levels of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence refers to the ability or the capability of a person to recognize his or her own emotions and those of others in regard to the subject of contention and use the emotional intelligence in guiding his behaviour and decision making in different environments which is much controlled by the goal the person wants to achieve. It may also be defined as the capacity for understanding, self-awareness, knowledge, reasoning and problem solving. Emotional intelligence is mostly useful when one is exposed to very contradicting situations which requires one to make very contradicting decisions regarding the social environment one is living in as well as taking care of the other people one is interacting with in the same environment which therefore means that emotional intelligence is much needed trait in navigating the social environment.

“Emotional intelligence is the best human trait for lifesurvival”.Most of the life situations needs critical thinking and intelligent decision making which calls for proper understanding of individual environment one understanding the his emotions towards the environment and situation one is exposed to as well as thinking of the future effects of the decision to the environment and to the emotions of the other people living and surrounding him since human are social being. Emotional intelligence therefore controls how one makes decisions towards other people which ultimately summarises how one survives in a particular environment. Social environment mostly exposes one to situations which are life time and which needs one to have very sombre and stable mind to weigh out which decisions to take.

Some of the most demanding situation which calls for high emotional intelligence in social life include leadership and social relationships. Leadership is one of the most demanding life situations because it calls for one to understand the different emotions of the different people one is leading and knowing how to properly handle and balance them while at the same time focusing on the main goals to be achieved in the period of the leadership. When one is leading a big group of individuals, one is always exposed to many challenges and critics which some of them are made to undermine the kind of leadership in force and specifically the emotional intelligence of the leader which is viewed as minor in decision making regarding the progression of the group being led. In such environment the needed and possession of the high emotional intelligence is very critical as the leader needs to compose himself before thinking on the correct move to make in balancing the pressure of quality delivery. Since most of the people under the particular leadership could be having high emotional intelligence than their leader it therefore means a war of emotions is likely to erupt and for the leader to survive and lead the group well, it calls for him to be able to analyse well the main differences between him and his critics and by using his high emotional intelligence make the correct decision which will be considered fair and promising for future prosperity. Therefore possession of high emotional intelligence plays a key part in leadership survival.

We take a step of examining how emotional intelligence is important in life especially in a working (job) environment. As stated in the thesis statementemotional intelligence is the most important train one needs when interacting with people as it helps on in controlling emotions of anger and helps in promoting social and friendly environment when dealing with other people .This is much required in a job place where people have different views and different personality traits and stands on how things should be done in striving to achieve their goals. However not all the ideas available at the work place are much useful for the progression of the organization. Therefore for the prosperity of the organization, emotional intelligence helps in making the best decisions for the organization at a particular time as well as accommodating all the views of other people in the organization by ensuring that they feel valued by the management team of the organization. In addition for the prosperity of the organization,high emotional intelligence is needed in making critical decisions such as production and competitive strategies development which will help the organization to survive in the most competitive business environment. Organizations which boosts possession of high emotional intelligence human resources have mostly emerged as better performing in terms of quality and quantity production since all decisions are made by application of high emotional intelligence which ensures that all members of the organization functions as a single unit for the common goal of the organization. This further proves the invaluable importance of emotional intelligence for life survival.

The most importance of emotional intelligence is seen when solving problems either for individual or group benefits. In application of emotional intelligence in solving problems for one to survive, it calls for one to perceive emotions that is one to detect and decipher emotions in faces, pictures and cultural artifacts and be able to process the information needed for the problem to be amicably solved. In addition one needs to use, understand and manage emotions in striving to ensure that one or group emotions don not interference with the achievement of the main goals of the organization. Therefore this situations further affirms the importance of the emotional intelligence for life survival.
