For this application assignment students will interview a school counselor who participates on a school’s crisis management plan and discuss the operation of the school emergency management plan and roles and responsibilities of the school counselor during crisis, disasters, and other trauma-causing events. The student will then evaluate a school’s Emergency Management Plan.

 

The Assignment:

 

Summarize this interview in a one-page report.

 

In a 4 to 6 page report evaluate a School’s Emergency Management Plan, and include the following information:

· Impact of the crisis, emergencies, and/or disasters on students, educators, and schools

· The skills needed for crisis intervention

· Counselors’ roles and responsibilities as members of an interdisciplinary emergency management response team

· Strategies for interagency/inter-organization collaboration and communication

· Discuss what school and community collaboration models for crisis/disaster preparedness and response would be applicable.

 

The interview and report will be submitted as a part of the Emergency Management Plan evaluation.
