Emergency Management – Suppose you are the principal of a school in your school district, and as more people have access to the COVID-19 vaccine, district leaders have agreed to reopen the schools. District-wide discussions are under way as to how to safely open schools without endangering the health and wellbeing of school personnel or students and their parents, which has been an ongoing concern. Lately, much of the discussion has centered on requiring school personnel, students and visitors to the school to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a prerequisite to being allowed to enter (or work in) the school building. Would it be legal to enact such a policy? What issues and implications do you envision if such a policy were to be enacted? Use case law and any of the legal resources in this course (such as readings, videos, Nexis Uni, Oyez, etc.) to support your contentions.

 

The Assignment – In the course and in completing the two-part assignment in Modules 6 and 7, what did you learn about what is legally required in recruiting, selecting, and inducting teachers and other instructional personnel in a school? What surprised you about what is required?
