Formulaic expressions
There are common phrases and sentences that a writer can use to make writing an email simple and easy. First, we must determine whether our email is formal or informal, and by knowing the purpose (why we are writing the email), and our audience (who we are sending it to).

Greetings are used to address the person you are emailing.
Note: First names are usually not used in formal emails. |

Note: Because this email is sent to someone you are more familiar with, first names can be used. |

A reason for writing is important to get your message properly. Think about your reader and how you want them to respond to your email. |

I am writing regarding the meeting we have arranged…
I am writing with regard to ……
With reference to our conversation this morning, I would like to let you know that…. |

Making a request or asking for information is also an important part of writing an email.
Note: It is important to be polite when you’re emailing to ask for a request formally. |

Would you mind coming earlier?

Note: If you are writing to a friend, you can use informal phrases. |
