Step 1: look for a P wave for every QRS complex

Step 2: make a notation on any 2 QRS complexes, then see if each heart beat “march out” across the

strip. This will determine if the rhythm is regular or irregular. (sometimes an irregularity is obvious)

Step 3: count each QRS complex and multiply by 10 for an estimated heart rate. (there are other

scientific methods to assess heart rate, for now this is a good start) The strip below is an estimated 130

beats per minutes.
