EIND 142 – Access Lab

1. Save the Excel file “Impatient_Payment_system” in the desktop

2. Upload the spreadsheet with the data:

a. Open Access software in the computer

b. Select “blank database” and name your database (any name will work)

c. Click “create”

3. In the top menu, select “External data”

4. Click on “New data soure”/ From file / Excel – and select the “Impatient_payment_system” file

5. Select “import the source data into a new table in the current database” and click OK

6. Select “first row contains column heading” and click Next

7. Let access select primary key and click next

8. Find the imported dataset on the white menu to the left under Tables and click on it. You should see your data imported into access.

9. Build a query:

a. Go to the create menu

b. Select Query wizard

c. Select “simple query wizard” and click OK

d. Select “Id”, “Total Payments” and “Provider_city” for the query

e. Select “summary query”. Click Summary Options and select “sum” and click OK.

f. Click next

g. Select “open the query to view information” and click “finish”

10. Now, you need to build your own query for the following scenarios:

a. You would like to see a summary of the sum of TOTAL payments by provider.

b. You would like to see a summary of the AVERGAE Medicaid Payments by state.

c. Any other query you want to do --- just be creative

11. Submit your file on D2L. If you need more time, the drobox will be open until Friday 5 pm.
