Introduction
Technology is one of the fields that have a massive effect on the human existence since it is evident that most of the activities rely on the advancement of technology in the current world. According to Marangunić & Granić (2015), it is clear that however technology is good, there are consequences that are rendered negative to the human existence. Some activities heavily depend on technology and end up bringing havoc to the human life and also change the way they associate and interact.
In contrast, the weight heavily shifts to the positive impacts since currently, almost all activities heavily depend on technology for success. Therefore, it is valid to conclude that it is one the most important thing to the human life. For example, the use of computers has made it easy to execute basic and helpful tasks, use of televisions, household accessories like a refrigerator, mobile phones, tablets among other electronic gadgets. When it comes to communication, technology have contributed to an advancement in the delivery of messages and services which is very convenient and reliable. In addition to that, entertainment sector has made an enormous stride where one can get updates and entertainment easily at any place. According to Madakam et al., (2015), means of transport and education have improved courtesy of technology. Consequently, lifestyle changes and people live a good life where the health issues are monitored using the sophisticated hospital machines.
However, technology has some backlogs of negative impacts that result in a massive complication. As much as one easily accesses information, it is very easy to lose the moral being of an individual. For instance, the easily accessible home entertainment makes one prone to laziness and addiction. In connection to that, one may end up getting some health complications due to building up of fat in the body due to lack of enough practice. Other issues involve loss of focus, degraded social skills and also other health issues like insomnia and fatigue.
Overview Literature Review
Technology has an influence on the human race and it is according to the recent studies where there are more positive impacts. It is evident that it has changed the way people associate and related to each other and therefore the conclusion that without technology, a human would have many challenges regarding different issues. To be sincere, it is very difficult to withdraw the advantage of technology from a human being. Life would be so difficult and challenging
Literature Review
Technology is a field that is open to revolution and keeps on changing over the time. The interventions that come along with technology opens up room for debates and discussions on how they impact a human being. To be realistic, in the sector of communication, telecommunication devices have improved sending messages conveniently over long distances. The forms include mobile phones which support a lot of services like emailing, video calling, instant text messages, and social media like Facebook and Instagram (Marangunić & Granić, 2015). These services are supported by a more complex technology of the GPS which facilities communication over long distances without much ado. According to Hanna et a., (2011), GPS technology helps in communication and also in the near future they are making more advancements. For example, it is possible to send a text message or an email over the internet and it is delivered in the next few minutes.
Consequently, businesses also improve as a result of technology where different activities are easily made possible. For instance, teleconferencing system helps to save a lot when it comes to cost, time and resources during the meetings (Park et al., 2014). It is evident that with the help of technology, businesses have mushroomed and managed to cut down the cost and improve their profit margins. The education sector has also improved through the resources injected into the learning process. According to Nussbaum & Diaz, (2013), classroom technology is essential and helps in the learning process and hence the teacher has a duty to use some strategies that rely on technology on the current world. Simply, digital education has improved the learning process, for example, the use of computers, online tutorials, use of projectors, and also using the internet for research purposes. In addition, learners master good characters and knowledge which they apply in their lives and in the process promote cultural issues. For example, through the social media leaners interact with learners from other institutions with different cultural practices and end up promoting cultural diversity. Therefore, technology opens many channels to promote communication and diverse the information.
Storage of information is also very effective. For instance, the shift from the videotapes to the DVDs and CDs is a major step. In addition, currently, we are even more advanced where we use flash disks and memory cards. This helps in storage and retrieval of information. A human being has an interesting lifestyle where home activities are made easier through technology. Security through the automated door locks and cameras have been promoted. The health sector has also advanced in terms of the machines used. The doctors can carry out major operations with the help of a machine and also communicate with different hospitals and share information and ideas. As a result, the health sector develops in the services given to the patients.
However, as much as technology is advantageous, we as individuals we have a role to play and ensure a balance between the real world and the world of technology, that is, the cyber world (Marangunić & Granić, 2015). Many issues come along with technology and most of them are extremely negative and they change the way we relate with each other in the society. For instance, we might spend a lot of time on the internet and end up wasting time and finally lead to addiction. Weinstein & Lejoyeux (2010) concludes that currently, many people in the world find themselves addicted to the internet where they cannot control the urge to browse. It comes with a lot of issues like health and also depression due to a lot of usages. In addition, social skills are affected when individual rely so much on the technology for communication (Madakam, et al., 2015). People lose the urge to communicate with family and relatives face facing consequently leading to a reduced sense of touch. As a result, it is very important to balance and find a neutral ground for effective communication.
The positive and negative effects of technology
One of the major positive impacts of technology is the influence on communication which has greatly revolutionized the universe. Through information technology, we can easily communicate with our friends and relatives who live far from us (Schreyer, 2000). Earlier, we relied on messengers and letters to send information from one place to the other; however, with technological advancements, we have mobile phones and the internet that is accessible worldwide. Through network signals, we connected to people across the universe and can thus share information. Social networks also give us a platform to share ideas, meet friends from all over the world and trace our lost friends. This is just one example of the importance of technology, the next point ventures into another field that has been improved.
The advancements in technology been significant in global development and social transformation, one of the major positive impacts of technology involved the influence on telecommunication which has greatly revolutionized the universe. Through information technology; we can easily communicate with our friends and relatives who live far from us, the sharing of information has been easier and faster than before (Schreyer 2000). Traditional approaches relied on messengers and letters to send information from one place to the other, educational programs needed physical attendance of classes and production and manufacturing processes were slow and inefficient. However, with technological advancements, we have computers and the internet that is accessible worldwide. The telecommunications network has helped in the sharing of information and connecting people across the universe; additionally, the manufacturing processes have now been automated, and the practices are more efficient than the traditional strategies. Social networks also give us a platform to share ideas, meet friends from all over the world and trace our lost friends. This element is just one example of the importance of technology, the next point ventures into another field that has been improved.
Technology has advanced the field of agricultural production and distribution by allowing specialized participation and making informed decisions by farmers and other stakeholders in the supply chain. Most developed countries implement precision farming which uses IT to make a direct contribution. As opposed to earlier practices, the farmer can now easily access accurate and timely resources and information that can help in making valuable decisions and adopting sustainable approaches. Farmers in the undeveloped countries mainly depend on conventional sources and methods while making farming decisions; these means are slower compared to their counterparts in the developed economies. With the advancements in telecommunications; farmers, including those in marginalized communities, can now adopt appropriate approaches, making better plans on their farming practices after getting adequate knowledge of farming seasons and trends (De Janvry and Sadoulet 2002). Besides the positive highlights of technological advancements; the approaches have been reported to have negative implications; the following paragraphs present the negative impacts of technology.
The introduction of the internet has resulted in a series of social-economic problems including addiction, especially among children and youths. Many children spent most of their time online playing games, connecting on social media, and engaging in other antisocial behaviors such as cyber-bullying. Consequently, this practice has reduced creativity in the young generation and also their physical activities and exercises. While it would be constructive for children to spend time at home doing their home-works or further learning; most of the times they are glued to playing games, they have ceased to involve themselves in physical exercises and hence to pose a threat to their health. Many parents have not been able to supervise or employ parental guidance on the usage of computers in their households; this has resulted to the internet propagating pornography and other erotic contents which is harmful which has caused addiction in both the young and old (Speers 2012). The next paragraph also provides another negative side of technology.
The technological advancement in agricultural practices encourages farmers to apply inorganic fertilizers and heavy farming machineries like tractors and combined harvesters which are gradually affecting soil fertility and natural balance. With a large amount of information available information on agricultural practices, farmers have been informed of a series options and numerous kinds of fertilizers they can apply to increase productivity in their farms.
Conclusion
It is evident that technology has a massive impact on human existence. Most of the activities rely on technology example, communication, transport, improved health sector, storage of information, education sector, and also improved businesses. However, there are some disadvantages that come with technology. They include addiction, health issues, and also time wastage. Therefore, as much as we use technology, we have a duty to ensure that we balance between fun and serious issues. However, it is true that technology has changed the way human lives and things will change as it advances.
